Formula One heads to Silverstone this weekend for the annual grand prix weekend. Known for being one of the fastest circuits in the calendar, which will put great pressure through the tires and with typically British variable weather conditions to boot, Silverstone rarely disappoints.

Silverstone, “the home of British motorsport”, is a circuit steeped in history, this will be the 48th time the circuit has played host to the Grand Prix, and is the 65th edition of the British Grand Prix, the first having been held in 1950. And this weekend looks to be one of the most historical editions, as Susie Wolff will become the first woman to take part in a race weekend for 22 years, as she will drive for Williams in Friday’s morning practice session.

Turning to the race itself, Nico Rosberg leads team mate Lewis Hamilton by 29 points, with Daniel Ricciardo third on 83 points for Red Bull. Despite Rosberg’s strong form throughout the season, Hamilton will go into his home race as favourite and look to get back to winning ways in his Mercedes, which is by far the fastest car on the grid.

The weekend kicks off with what is becoming an obligatory performance at F1 meets from a big name in music. Silverstone will feature the Kaiser Chiefs performing their first concert of the summer, before practice commences on Friday morning, with qualifying on Saturday and the race itself on Sunday.

Nothing is certain in Formula 1 in general, however what is certain is the 2014 British Grand Prix won’t fail to disappoint.

You can watch the race live on both Sky Sports and BBC.
