Take advantage of the tropical waters of St Lucia and embark on an ocean adventure of a life time with St Lucia Fishing. With two beautiful private boats, an experienced crew and a range of luxury services at your disposal, you can enjoy some of the best game fishing in the world and experience the very best that this beautiful island has to offer.

St Lucia for Fishing

Anglers worldwide gather in St Lucia in shoals simply to experience some of the best deep sea fishing you will ever encounter. The waters around St Lucia run deep – deeper, in fact, than anywhere else in the Caribbean –and are populated by a truly astounding abundance of marine life. Some of the more common fish found in these waters are the sailfish, wahoo, tuna and mackerel; however rarer fish such as marlin, sword fish and barracuda can also be reeled in if luck is on your side.

Deep sea fishing generally means better game- these larger fish aren’t found in the shallow reefs that surround St Lucia as they require a bigger feeding ground. The best fishing starts approximately one mile from the shore and can continue outwards for up to around eight miles. The best fishing charters will know the waters and can take you to the best spots for the specific fish-meaning you will have the opportunity to hook some of the most prized game fish in the world. Fishing in St Lucia is an exhilarating past time, but it is also a way of life for many of the Emerald Isle’s inhabitants. Therefore, St Lucia operates a ‘catch and release’ policy for recreational fishers, as a means to preserve the beautiful but fragile ecosystem.

Big Game

Anglers will truly be in their element in St Lucia. Out of all the game fish species found in these waters, the white marlin, a member of the Billfish family, is one of the most sought after. Identified by the light blue or lavender vertical strips along the flanks and a scattering of black or purple spots on the first dorsal and anal fins, this fish can grow up to around nine feet in length and can weigh up to approximately 180 lbs. In comparison, the red snapper only weighs up to around 20lbs, but it is incredibly versatile and considered a delicacy across the Caribbean. Don’t let its delicate reddish-pink hues fool you, however; with a row of concealed short and sharp teeth, it is a more than capable predator.

With its razor sharp teeth and glinting eyes, the Barracuda is instantly recognisable as a fearsome killer. A highly efficient predator, the barracuda has a large mouth containing a row of small teeth along the outside of the jaw, with a larger set of dagger like teeth within. These closely set teeth are flattened and triangular in shape, designed to tear flesh and giving prey little chance of escape.  The record for a hook and line caught Barracuda is 5.5 foot and 103 lbs. Any Barracuda over 1.8ft is considered a success.

For deep sea fishers, tuna fish are highly sought after prizes. There are two species of tuna that you are likely to encounter in St Lucia; the yellowfin and the blackfin. Yellowfin tuna fish are strong schoolers and will commonly school under large drifting objects such as driftwood, patches of sea grass, or, perhaps most importantly, boats.  A larger variety of tuna, the body is a dark metallic blue or green above, whist the belly and lower sides are a silvery white. The second dorsal and anal fins are bright yellow, though its most distinctive feature is the golden stripe that runs along the side.

The yellowfin tuna can grow up to a maximum length or around 110 inches and can weigh up to a staggering 400 lbs. The blackfin tuna is much smaller in size, reaching a maximum size of around 40 inches and 50 lbs.  But although it is much smaller than its yellowfin cousin, it still makes for an exciting catch.
