Remire Island is a small island located 130 nanometre’s from Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles, which we reached by private plane.  The Seychelles Yacht Charter crew were there to meet us and were exceedingly friendly – I felt a comradely very quickly.  We had a lovely evening, and ate beautiful island flavoured cuisine.
 
The following morning we awoke to the Island of Remire.  Remire is surrounded by a beautiful reef which offers stunning snorkelling, as well as host to hundreds of sea birds.  I had read before arriving that is not uncommon to see hawksbill turtles here, and saw eight in total just that morning.  Just off Remire Island is the Remire Reef; my partner quickly went to explore the three nanometre long reef as it boasted excellent fishing.  We ate his catch that night!
 
From Remire Island we sailed to the African Banks, which, being an extremely isolated island, felt almost like I was an explorer.  The marine life we spotted from the deck was absolutely amazing, with black tip reef sharks and rays in abundance.  Remire is so small one can walk around the whole island in less than an hour.  We had a beach braai that night, and I don’t remember being so at peace with life.
 
Along the shore there are plenty of turtle nests, and if you are lucky you can witness turtle lying or see little newly hatched turtles making a run for the water.  We watched a turtle lay her eggs…a spellbinding experience!
