A Celebration of the Great British Countryside

A Celebration of the Great British Countryside

By James Drakeford

The Countryside Alliance’s Game Fair made a triumphant return to Oxfordshire’s Blenheim Palace July to celebrate the very best of British countryside.  Between 18-20 July, approximately 143,500 eager visitors descended on the palace estate, (including politicians, celebrities and of course, countryside enthusiasts) keen to try their hand at the extensive range of attractions on offer and browse the many exhibits, as the leading outdoor country event demonstrated once more the virtues of an active life outdoors.

The three day event offered numerous opportunities for hands on excitement, as visitors were encouraged to try their hands at such activities as clay shooting, fishing, 4x4 driving, gundogs and airguns (the CLA’s own team of shooting instructors were on hand to offer one-to-one lessons and advice for shots of every age and level of experience) allowing many participants to uncover hidden talents or gain a new hobby. Visitors also enjoyed cookery demonstrations, polo matches and sporting competitions across the action packed weekend.

CLA Director General Helen Woolley commented: ‘I am delighted at the enthusiasm of both visitors and exhibitors alike for this wonderful event.  The feedback we have received already for this year’s show has been extremely positive and has emphasized the CLA Game Fair as the Showcase event for the countryside.’
