Hotel Review: Metropolitan by COMO

By Kelly Purple

The Metropolitan is a stylish hotel located in Mayfair, Central London, in close walking distance of Piccadilly Circus, Bond Street and Knightsbridge.

All 144 rooms and suites provide a chic and elegant decor no matter which room you book, showcasing soft coffee and cream colours and notes of warm plum.  The City Rooms overlook Mayfair and feature a queen or king sized bed, some with walk-in showers in the bathrooms.  Upgraded from this, Deluxe City Rooms also feature a sitting area, and inter-connected rooms are available for guests who require separate beds for their party.  For those with lots of clothes, the City Studio Rooms are the idea choice as they feature a walk-in wardrobe as well as a separate sitting and dining area.  For views over Hyde Park, book a Metropolitan Rooms or Superior/Deluxe Park Suite  to enjoy the greenery.

The highly sought after COMO Suite on the top floor benefits from a freestanding bathtub, relaxation area and dining table, all in a generously-proportioned penthouse apartment.  Room facilities include on demand music and film services to enjoy on the large 67 channel television, high speed internet access via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable, air conditioning, electronic safety deposit box and mini bar.  Complimentary water is provided by the housekeeping team every time the room is cleaned.  Penthouse guests also enjoy a private fax machine, iPod docking station and other electronics available upon request.

Guest services at the hotel provide everything you’d expect from a luxury boutique- 24 hour room service, butler, concierge service, valet parking, limousine hire, personal shopping assistance, travel and tour specialists, foreign currency exchange and secretarial assistance, plus a professional team of maids and laundry, dry cleaning and pressing  services.

Breakfast takes place in ‘The White Room’, able to hold receptions for up to 80 people or private dining for parties of 60.  London’s famous Met Bar is located here and has been recently refurbished, with sophisticated cocktails available from the menu.  Guests can also enjoy Michelin-starred cuisine from the Nobu restaurant, specialising in Japanese-Peruvian delicacies.  Black cod with miso, the fish marinated for two to three days, or squid pasta with garlic sauce are particular favourites of the founder and co-owner, Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, who has a string of restaurants across the globe to his name, as far as Tokyo and New York.

Guest wellbeing is taken very seriously at the hotel, with customers able to enjoy complimentary access to the COMO Shambhala Urban Escape spa and gym.  Six treatment rooms provide Asian-inspired holistic therapies from acupuncture, facials and massage to reiki and reflexology, plus steam rooms, fitness centre and yoga facilities.  Ensure health inside and out with the Met bar’s range of energising smoothies and snacks, all made using raw, organic foods and avoiding dairy for lactose-intolerant guests, the ideal way to complete your wellbeing experience.

For business use, the Metropolitan offers suites for small meetings or larger event rooms, with clients benefitting from dedicated events management, personal event co-ordinators and room services.  For longer-term guests, 19 stylish apartments adjacent to the hotel provide the same services as other customers enjoy, with the addition of fully-equipped modern kitchens and maid service five times a week.  If you’re after true luxury, whether on a personal break to London or a short business trip, the Metropolitan by COMO can’t be beaten.
