Leading Spas Of The World - Part 2

6) The Ashram Spa, Calabasas, California

How do you fancy a five-hour- long hike in the Santa Monica hills, three hours of yoga (beginning when you rise at 6am), an hour-long workout, an hour in the pool and an hour of dancing every day?  This is the programme at the Ashram, dubbed Hollywood's secret 'get skinny spa', where guests live on the minimum food and maximum exercise. The Ashram hosts 12 guests at a time.

7) Caudalie’s Vinotherapie Spa, France

Vinotherapy might sound like a lever name for the way you relax on a Friday night, but in this context it’s the stunning spa in the hotel Les Sources de Caudalie - located among the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, near Bordeaux, inspired by a study proving that the French diet and lifestyle is conducive to good health.  With this in mind, the spa offers treatments combining the virtues of natural hot spring water - rich in minerals and oligo-elements - with the most recent scientific discoveries of the benefits of the grape and the grapevine.

8) The Blue Lagoon, Iceland

As close to a natural experience as you can possibly get, the lagoon holds six million litres of geothermal seawater, which is renewed every forty hours, meaning there’s no need for additional cleansers, like chlorine.  There is something scientific about the composition of minerals and levels of silica which apparently does wonderful things for your skin, and the treatments take place both inside the spa and in the lagoon itself, in the pure, Icelandic open air, making it a super-rejuvenating experience.

9) La Mamounia SPA, Morocco

The concept behind this Marrakech-based spa in the chic La Mamounia is to bring together the best of all things beauty and relaxation related into one 2,500 square metre pampering sanctuary, where you can book yourself in for a day and leave completely cleansed, polished and beautified top-to-toe.  The facilities include two traditional hammams (Turkish steam bath) and a private hammam, nine multiple treatment rooms, a hairdressing salon, six outdoor massage cabins, a jacuzzi and an indoor ozone-heated pool.

10) Wildflower Hall Spa, Shimla

Set amongst cedar forests, with fresh air and a view of snow capped mountains, the Spa Pavilion at the Oberoi's Wildflower Hall Resort is a haven of tranquillity.  Twice voted "India’s Best Spa Resort" in the World Travel Awards, the spa uses plant and flower essences in its aromatherapy and Ayurveda based treatments.
