London EDITION: The Capital’s Latest Luxury Addition

London EDITION: The Capital’s Latest Luxury Addition

By Sam Lucas

If you’re looking for a fully immersive London experience then check in to The London EDITION, an innovative hotel located amongst the Georgian townhouses in the heart of the city’s Fitzrovia district that is opening its doors to guests for the first time this week.

Whilst the hotel is a recent creation from the mind of hotelier extraordinaire Ian Schrager, the property on Berners Street has a long standing history; the original conjoined houses were transformed into a luxury hotel in 1909 and prominent guests included King Edward VII and Carl Fabergé.  Schrager used the building’s elegant architecture as a backdrop and layered modern components throughout the public spaces, creating a blend of straight forward chic and traditional Georgian refinery.

The London EDITION’S restaurant was inspired by the artworks of Johannes Vermeer and Edwardian elegance.  A haven of oak tables, taupe leather banquettes and two large custom bronze chandeliers that pay homage to New York’s Grand Central Station, this fine setting provides guests with breakfast, lunch and dinner courtesy of gastronomic genius and Executive Chef Jason Atherton.

The hotel – and its lobby in particular – act as a microcosm of the best that London has to offer.  The lobby and bar create a sense of organised chaos with a design style that is hard to categorise.  An antique billiard table sits alongside pale green velvet sofas and modern wingback chairs, whilst a walnut communal table is fitted with Apple desktop computers and outlets for personal laptop use.  Blending modern and period detail, the lobby therefore mixes ideas of work with play and reflects the commotion of London’s public spaces.

With the hotel offering 173 lavish wood panelled rooms that resemble the cosy, cabin-like rooms of a luxury yacht, resting in the heart of London becomes a pleasure and a privilege.  Each room contains a 46” flat screen HDTV, bathroom complete with rainforest shower, high-speed wireless internet and individually controlled air conditioning.  Amongst these modern comforts the original artwork and custom designed furniture maintains the blend of classic and contemporary that flows throughout the hotel.  For those lucky enough to find themselves in one of the many terrace-equipped rooms, stunning views of the city await.

When rest can wait and business calls, the hotel brings a number of executive services to the table.  Boardroom conferences and more intimate meetings can be accommodated for in the flexible event spaces that provide a formal business venue inside the hotel’s lavish setting.  State-of-the-art audio and visual equipment, video conferencing, smart boards and electronic flipcharts, executive car services and 24-hour multilingual secretarial staff create a professional and exclusive atmosphere for those wanting to conduct business in a comfortable city setting.

Its location in the plush neighbourhood of Fitzrovia means that you’re just a short walk from Covent Garden, providing you with easy access to the shops and world-class theatres of the West End.  Regent’s Park and Oxford Street are similarly within walking distance of the hotel.

To stay at The London EDITION is to maximise your experience of the culturally thriving city.  With its Georgian exterior, fine dining options, business-friendly atmosphere, attention to detail and its close proximity to many of the capital’s most popular landmarks, this hotel truly feels like an extension of the city it inhabits.  The London EDITION is the newest jewel in London’s crown.
