Thailand’s Best Spas

By Matt Garfield

Introduced in the 1990s, spas in Thailand are relatively new and have gradually gained in popularity – particularly with tourists.  But over the years local Thais have began to enjoy this new alternative therapy and today, a seriously impressive array of spas are in operation which specialise in revitalising treatment and relaxing therapy.

Silarom Spa

Whilst sitting in the open air pavilion at the Silarom Spa, you’ll be sat atop a cliff, and looking out at a magnificent view of the ocean.  But there’s no need to just enjoy the sites from there, you can observe the rolling waves while you receive one of the spa’s various treatments.  The warm sea air makes for a perfect environment whilst you relax with a massage, and even the indoor sauna rooms offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding cliffs and ocean.

The spa’s signature Anti-Stress treatment is a must for anyone looking to completely unwind, and the other essential treatments all offer long and effective relaxation experiences.  Refreshing face massages and treatments promise anti-aging effects and aromatherapy massages may provide a taste of new experiences to guests.  If any part of your body is giving you trouble, then the spa most likely have a remedy for it, whether it’s the ‘Top to Toe’ head and feet massage, or the ‘Golden Beauty’ face and body massage.  All of this can be enjoyed within the breathtaking setting, and you will almost want to keep your eyes open, even if you’re looking to relax.

Anantara Spa

Following this spa’s tranquil pathways through its oasis setting couldn’t be further away from the sensation of walking down the busy streets of Bangkok.  The spa offers a quiet and sedate retreat away from the city.  Its numerous treatment rooms are joined by the pathway, which will lead you to the spa’s private garden courtyard where guests can wash themselves in the exotic rain water shower.

Enjoy the delicious cuisine in the traditional sala, or relax with one of the spa’s signature treatments.  The Anantara Signature Massage inspires deep relaxation in the guest and restores the flow of energy.  Use this new found vitality to walk in the resorts gardens or swim in the deep blue swimming pools.  Or simply clear your mind and enjoy being away from the chaos of the city in the spa’s sauna room, or in one of the six deluxe treatment rooms.

Cape Spa

This Phuket Spa is a mix of modernist and classical design, and is part of the spacious and tranquil Cape Panwa Hotel.  The décor and setting is complemented by the cities bright sunshine and clear skies.  It makes for a perfect haven and a completely stress free environment, and the world class staff are eager to help or assist you as you enjoy the spa’s serene ambience, and it will not be difficult to once you pamper yourself with a traditional Thai massage.  This and the Indian head massages are carried out by skilled body technicians.

The steam rooms, saunas and Jacuzzis all provide excellent relaxation and act as perfect cures to travel weariness or jetlag.  They also act well as follow ups to the spa’s signature treatments, which range from foot soaks that incorporate elements of yoga, to intensive anti-stress massages that use essential oils, but they all leave you feeling equally relaxed and refreshed.

Chiva-Som

The enthusiastic Thai hospitality of their staff is a source of pride for the Chiva-Som spa, but this luxury health resort also boasts cuisine that has won multiple international awards, including Spa Finder Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award and Spa Asia Crystal’s Awards for Best Spa Cuisine.  All of their food is good for you, but guests can also partake in an even healthier cleansing diet if they so wish to.  But all of the food is of an incredibly high standard, and will provide a treat even for those that are not looking to kick start a healthy life style.

Enjoy a lemon glass tea as you begin the spa’s cleansing water therapy treatment, and drift away as you let go on a soothing heated waterbed.  From there you can either get a massage from one of the spa’s dedicated therapists or challenge yourself in the gym by receiving guidance from an experienced personal trainer.  The Chiva-Som spa can cater to you whether you want to get healthy or just let your hair down.

Maikhao Dream Spa

Based around the purity and rejuvenating quality of water.  The revitalising element is spread all over the three-story Phuket spa, and it makes the environment seem just as refreshing as the treatments it offers.  Traditional spa treatments and massages are scored by the soothing sounds of moving water, and the signature treatments, such as the synchronised massage, offer unique and different forms of relaxation.  Skilful therapists use world class Margy facial cosmetics and organic products to create a sense of complete rejuvenation.  The spa's body therapy facilities mixes cutting edge techniques with professional equipment, and a specialist weight management clinic is on hand for those guests looking to reinvent themselves.  After you have had the chance to fully indulge and unwind in the serenity of this premier Natai resort you will flow as freely as water.
