The Ferrari Way

by Sean Mahon

The most prestigious sports car manufacturer in the world has maintained an innovative, stylish and desirable image since it produced its first vehicle in 1929.  The founder, Enzo Ferrari was described as an “agitator of men” due to the extreme lengths he would go to get the most from his employees – his personality drove the company on.  He was a master psychologist, ahead of his time in terms of sports psychology, he would often berate his team barking orders after a Formula 1 win, whereas after a defeat he would comfort them, acknowledging their efforts – he knew to never let them relax or get downtrodden and always made sure they reached their engineering potential.

Enzo’s strength of personality meant that Ferrari was at the pinnacle of automobile manufacturing, originally set up as a racing team called Scuderia Ferrari that was founded in 1929, with its first road legal car coming in 1947, over the decades the racing team gained many victories, racking up titles and championships.  The name has become synonymous with performance and success, the sports car is now a must have for the rich and famous, whereas the race car is at the height of technological advancements with immeasurable success.  The brand is immersed in Italian culture, history and heritage, a Formula 1 or MotoGP race held in Italy is a passionate and fiery affair which is a must for any racing fan.

With Ferrari being so strongly associated with the country, there are a number of things to do in Italy which involve the name, one being a visit to Maranello, to see the legendary Ferrari Factory.  It’s a journey that will quench the knowledgeable thirst of any Ferrari aficionado but is also relevant for those who have a passing interest in the company.  A trip which allows you to soak yourself in the history and the mystique of Ferrari and take a look behind the scenes of the team is an awesome opportunity.  An informative tour, which sees you take a look around the factory, go to the Ferrari museum and see the test track at Fiorano.
