Waitrose says Thank you Mum

On Thursday 27th March Waitrose will unveil a giant blossoming Mother’s Day card at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, powered by the public’s #ThanksMum messages.

The nation is being encouraged by Waitrose to say #ThanksMum and show their appreciation to Mums everywhere; whether it’s for cooking your favourite recipe, picking you up when you fell over or standing in the rain while you played sport, everyone has a reason to thank their mum.

For every message submitted via Twitter, Facebook or email, a flower will be planted in both an digital and a real life, giant blossoming Mother’s Day card at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the world’s most famous garden.

The floral installation, designed and built by Ian Drummond of Indoor Garden Design, will be composed of seasonal varieties, including roses, double headed lysianthus and shamrock chrysanthemums. Ian has previously created ‘Britain’s biggest bouquet’, as well as stunning displays for London Fashion Week. All flowers will be sourced from Fairtrade growers.

The display, which is expected to measure just under 4m high by 2m wide, will be in place until Tuesday 1st April. Visitors can take advantage of Kew Garden’s buy one adult ticket, get one half price, using the offer code ‘THANKSMUM’ when booking online.

Anyone who posts a message will also be in with a chance of winning a special treat on Mother’s Day itself.
Julie Randall, Senior Manager for Digital Communications at Waitrose said: ‘What better way to bring the nation together than by creating a unique gift for mums everywhere. Publicly thanking mums for all they’ve done will no doubt tug at the heart strings; we’re excited to see the special messages people have coming to life in flowers.'

Ian Drummond of Indoor Garden Design commented on the installation: ‘We all know mums are very special people. I am looking forward to using flowers that each represents a personal message to a mum to create a wonderful design that will celebrate mothers everywhere. We will start on Wednesday and work all through the night to get it ready for the Mother’s Day weekend.’
