UK Passport costs rise TODAY - Why the increase and how much will your renewal cost?

UK Passport costs are set to rise today after the Home Office’s proposal to raise the fees was passed in Parliament at the beginning of the year. An adult passport now costs £85 but why has the price increased?

The price of a UK passport rises today meaning anyone applying for a new passport or replacing a lost or stolen document will be required to pay the higher fee.

For the first time ever the Home Office has made it more expensive to apply for a new passport by post than online.

Applying for a passport by post or using the local post office facilities is a timely and expensive process as each section has to be carefully reviewed and approved.

In a bid to reduce this unnecessary cost, the government have spiked postal application costs whilst online applications only raised by £3.

Online applications will now cost £75.50 compared to filling out a postal application which has been raised to £85.

This rise also affects the cost of child passports. An online application costs £49 whilst a postal form cost has risen to £58.50.

That equates to a 17 per cent rise in postal applications for adult passports and a whopping 27 per cent increase in child postal forms.

The costs of other application forms have also increased today.
