A Journey Through Alaska

A Journey Through Alaska

More than just a winter wonderland, Alaska is teeming with opportunities for unique experiences, day excursions and outdoor adventure.

Go Fishing

Alaska offers some of the most spectacular fly-fishing, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing and even ice fishing in the world.  With over 3 million lakes, 3,000 rivers and countless fish-filled streams, any avid angler from the seasoned pro to the absolute novice will see that the challenge isn’t catching fish, but deciding what kind to catch and where.  If the trophy catch is what you’re after, try the Waterfall Resort located in Alaska’s Inside Passage on the scenic Prince of Wales Island.  Here you will be able to get more than your fill of Alaskan King Salmon.  A day trip and dinner all rolled into one.

Cruise the Glaciers

With an estimated 100,000 glaciers across the State, this is undoubtedly one of the highlights of a journey to Alaska.  Take a cruise through the Gulf of Alaska to enjoy the allure of the pristine Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier and College Fjord.  Marvel as the snow falls and melts at the top of the mountains creating a river of ice flowing downward to the sea.  From the electric blue affiliated with the glaciers to the creaking sounds associated with calving – the visual beauty of this spectacle will be etched in the back of your mind for many years to come.

Go Hiking

While Alaska may evoke images of ice caps and snow, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy its beautiful greenery.  It is home to the ‘crown jewel’ of the United States national forest system.  Spanning 17 million acres, the Tongass National Forest is roughly the size of West Virginia and contains one of the rarest ecosystems on Earth.   Hike through the ancient rain forest and discover its eclectic collection of wildlife ranging from five species of salmon, humpback whales, grizzly and black bears, wolves, black tail deer, and magnificent birds such as the bald eagle, northern goshawk and marbled murrelet.  From accessible nature paths to mountain hikes, an amazing trail system provides routes for all abilities.

Round Up

Alaska will always be synonymous with its ample glaciers and copious snow fall, and rightly so.  You will find plenty of options to experience the Alaska you’ve always dreamed about, while at the same time visiting those off-the-cuff spots that will exceed all expectations.
