A Walk in the Park

A Walk in the Park

With an abundance of towering skyscrapers and bustling streets, the array of magnificent parks in New York City adds a much-needed dose of refined relaxation to the city’s pulsating energy.

Located in the heart of Manhattan, Central Park is undoubtedly one of New York City’s symbols.  The 778 acres of lush forests, a zoo and a lake are the NYC’s equivalent of an oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle, and the park’s tranquil wilderness makes it an absolute locals and tourist favourite and the perfect spot for a morning jog, lunch-break or family Sunday picnics.  However, Central Park is definitely not the only park that the Big Apple has to offer.

Offering breathtaking landscapes of Manhattan’s skyline, Brooklyn Bridge Park has everything that you can ask for from a public garden.  Ride the restored merry-go-round, play a game of football or go kayaking, attend free outdoor yoga and zumba classes or simply sit on the lush green grass and enjoy the thriving East River surroundings.  Located in Chelsea and offering vistas of Hudson River and New Jersey is the 1.45-mile-long linear park – The High Line – which was built on an elevated infrastructure of an abandoned railroad.  In addition to naturalised plantings, the park that was inspired by Promenade Plantée (a tree-lined walkway) in Paris is also home to contemporary art and sound installations.

Soon after completing Central Park, architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux started designing the iconic Prospect Park in Brooklyn.  With children-friendly activities such as the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Prospect Park Zoo and Wollman Rink, the scenic verdant spot is perfect for a family day out.
