Bruges: A Fairy Tale Land

Bruges: A Fairy Tale Land

Bruges, or “The Venice of the North”, how the Belgians so proudly call it, is a cosy medieval town situated in the Dutch part of Belgium.  If you are looking for a more remote and traditional location, with beautifully preserved architecture and charming historic houses, contoured by numerous moss-covered canals and Art-Nouveau bridges, then your next holiday destination is an obvious choice.  Just an hour away from the International Brussels Airport, the town is reachable by all means of transport and has a broad range of cultural and historical amusements.

After booking your stay at award-winning five stars hotels such as Dukes’ Palace or Pand Hotel (both of which offer an exquisite old-world experience complimented with the highest level of service)  the next natural step would be to embark on this historical and picturesque journey, where modern attractions and classic styles combine.  Once done with cycling and boat-promenades, visit the 15th and 16th Century Groeninge and Folklore Museums and bask in the Historic Centre of Brugge –present on the World Heritage List, Basilica of the Holy Blood, Burg Square or Belfry and the Market Halls.

Usually, when we think of Belgium we also imagine rivers of beer, fountains of chocolate, pots of mussels and mountains of fries. The Bruges Beer Museum will walk you through the whole process of ale creation, while Spegelaere Chocolate Museum or the different chocolate shops will introduce you to the sweet art of the Belgian chocolatiers.  For the seafood lovers, Breydel de Coninck is the place to be, because of their delicious and large pots of lobster, eel or the famous mussels.  And naturally, in order to finish the holiday in style, tasting more of the local gastronomy at the three-Michelin-star De Karmeliet () is also a must.
