Cruise through Norway’s Stunning Fjords with Boreal Yachting

Sailing in northern Norway is like stepping into a fairy tale world.  Snow-capped mountains, meandering fjords and traditional villages combine with icy blue waters, wide open skies and bitingly fresh air, creating a realm of pure beauty, adventure and experience.  The city of Tromsø is situated in the heart of ‘Arctic Norway’, providing the perfect starting point for nature lovers wishing to embark on polar expeditions, whilst the diverse, wintery terrain is ideal for combining a sailing trip with other activities, such as skiing, climbing and trekking.

With Boreal Yachting, you can enjoy a holiday of a lifetime.  Owned and operated by Emely and Ivar Bertelsen, they introduce their clients to the highlights of northern Norway, such as Lofoten, Lyngen, and North Cape.  The country’s best kept secrets; these destinations were made for those who long to chase adventure and experience true beauty.  As devoted sailors, the Bertelsen’s passion runs deep; they love nothing more than to share their knowledge and expertise as they lead their clients on a journey of discovery.

Arctic Norway

The Northern Lights, the midnight sun, the Svalbard Archipelago – these are just a few of the unique reasons that Arctic Norway continues to fascinate and inspire.  Exploring this region can be an all year round exercise; there are a range of seasonal activities on offer, such as excursions to protected bays to find the ultimate aurora borealis experiences (between October and February) and where you closely follow the Humpback and Orca whales during the daytime.  Of course, visitors can also enjoy a relaxing time out at sea, and in small fisherman villages soaking up the captivating landscapes and atmospheres.

The Arctic Norway reaches from the Lofoten Peninsula to the North Cape, the most northerly point of Europe.  The Lofoten archipelago, despite its location in the Arctic Circle, is blessed with the warm Gulf Stream ensuring ice free waters all year round.  Between Lofoten and the North Cape lies Lyngen, the skiers’ paradise.  The mountain peaks that soar more than 1,000 metres high have long been a firm favourite amongst hikers, whilst the dazzling glaciers, cascading rivers and smooth mountain lakes enchant all those that step foot in the region.

The Fleet

Boats operating in northern Norway are exposed to the freezing climate and harsh arctic conditions, and so for Boreal Yachting, the safety and security of their passengers is the most important factor when selecting boats to traverse these waters.  However, they also appreciate that comfort is key, and so therefore all vessels are equipped for safe and luxurious sailing.  All their yachts follow extensive servicing programmes and undergo detailed inspections between each charter.

The Delphia 47 is designed to guarantee excellent performance and safety when blue water sailing.  Ideal for larger parties, this yacht features five double cabins and four heads compartments.  The bright and airy saloon, with its elegant and modern interior, provides a comfortable space in which to relax.

With four large double bedded cabins and two crew cabins, the spacious Salina 48 is a luxury yacht for those seeking the ultimate sailing and nature experience.  This catamaran is used for cruises as well as for representation events and ceremonies.  Your skipper and crew will remain at your disposition throughout.

Ski and Sail

Combining the best of Arctic Norway, Boreal Yachting offers their guests the exclusive option of enjoying a sailing and skiing holiday.  Every March, April and May, (the optimum season to combine these thrilling pastimes) clients may sail the fjords of the Lyngen Archipelago, ski the snow covered peaks and climb the soaring summits for a glimpse of the amazing views.

Lyngen is made up of several hundred summits and offers a variety of challenges, enabling all dedicated off-piste skiers to find their ideal track to enjoy a skiing experience of a life time.  Boreal Yachting offer one week tours, though shorter trips can be catered for.  Combine thrilling experiences with unrivalled luxury and sail with experienced and knowledgeable skippers in a comfortable two berth cabin (one of which will serve as your private quarters) enjoying high quality, local fresh food prepared on board.

This trip will be planned with your wishes and level of skill in mind, and there are plenty of opportunities for both advanced and beginner skiers to enjoy an unrivalled skiing trip.  From advanced off-piste tours that encompass difficult mountains, to a gentler introduction to the sublime Arctic scenery, with Boreal Yachting, everyone will be able to experience the freedom and thrills that only a ski and sailing holiday can provide.

Colours in Nature

Arctic Norway may be a dream destination for winter sports aficionados, but this region also has so much more to offer.  The natural beauty of Norway is truly breathtaking; from the ice-capped mountains, to the frolicking killer whales to the eternal glow of the midnight sun, visitors seeking out an unrivalled natural experience could never be disappointed.  With Boreal Yachting, clients can enjoy a luxurious yachting experience that encapsulates genuine experiences and supreme beauty.

Watch nature’s theatre unfold above you and witness a spectacle of light.  Arctic Norway is one of the best places outside of Iceland to catch a mesmerising glimpse of the aurora borealis, and the chance to see them from the comfort of a yacht, far from artificial light, is surely a dream come true for even the most seasoned of travellers.  The best time to see the Northern Lights if from September to April, but clients of Boreal Yachting need not worry about taking to the cold and icy waters in winter, as the company serve delicious food and hot drinks to keep you warm as you gaze captivated at the spellbinding lights dancing above you.
