Discover Qatar

By John Hart

Qatar is fast developing as a major Mid-east destination, after opening its doors to tourism since 1989.

Qatar is home to major historic forts, modern luxury hotels, impressive seascapes and sandunes.

Doha, the capital of Qatar is located halfway down the east coast peninsula.  Doha is an important commercial and Cultural center and is connected perfectly with the outside world through state-of-the art seaports, airports and telephone links.

Tourists can explore the natural environment of Qatar by taking an exciting desert safari, relaxing at the many beaches and pools or just enjoying their favourite sport.  There is something for everyone in this wonderful place.

National Museum of Islamic Art

Located in Doha, The Museum of Islamic Art draws much influence from ancient Islamic architecture, yet has a unique design.  It was the first of its kind in the Persian Gulf and has a very large collection of Islamic art, plus a study and a library.  It is one of the world’s most complete collections of Islamic artefacts, with items originating from Spain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, India, and Central Asia.

Zubarah

Originally the center of power in Qatar the Zubarah is now a ruined and deserted town in the north-western coast of the Qatar peninsula about 105 km from Doha.  Noted for its old fortress which was originally built in 1938 and was restored as a museum in 1987.

Khor Al Udeid Beach

The Khor Al Udeid Beach is one the most beautiful tourist attractions in the Middle East. It provides a relaxing and tranquil environment for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The beach showcases tall and beautifully shaped dunes which can make for a fun inland desert safari.  This is a place where you can sit and relax yourself in calm surroundings.  The warm and pristine waters of the Gulf will make your outing all the more memorable.

Doha Golf Club

Doha Golf Club boasts an 18 hole Championship Course, a 9 hole Academy Course, an enormous driving range and putting green, 8 artificial lakes, graceful landscaping and a beautiful clubhouse designed in old traditional Arabic style, which has been located at one of the highest points on the course giving it a magnificent prominence.

A sight to behold amid the surrounding barren desert, the gloriously green Doha Golf Club has an internationally recognised 18-hole course, which hosts the annual Qatar Masters in March.  Open to non-members, it also has a flood-lit, nine-hole academy course for those in a hurry.  The opulent, marble-rich clubhouse sports an excellent restaurant called Il Mediterraneo.
