Discover Romania with Balkan Trails

Explore the beautiful nature, impressive monuments and quaint villages of Romania with Balkan Trails.  Husband and wife team, Vlad and Zoe Trestian, have been working in the travel industry for over 10 years and leading tours in Central & Eastern Europe, in particular Romania and Bulgaria.  After organising hundreds of tours in Romania, they firmly believe that the best way to travel and discover a new country is by partaking in a private tour.

Their itineraries are fully customisable; each tour is built around you and your travel companions, allowing you to enjoy the personable service of a knowledgeable private guide and private air conditioned transportation.  Balkan Trails will lead you only the sights you are most interested in, providing the flexibility and comfort that only a private tour can offer.

Vlad and Zoe are constantly on the lookout for new places to feature on their tours, enabling them to offer their clients new experiences and ‘behind the scenes’ glimpses into everyday life in Romania.  As a result of their dedication and hard work, their tours offer a host of bespoke ‘discovery experiences’ that are rarely found on standard bus excursions – visit a local market in the remote countryside villages, meet the local people or enjoy a traditional family meal in a Romanian home – with Balkan Trails, it is easier than ever to get to the heart of this beautiful country.  From exploring the rich Eastern European history, to meeting local craftsmen and artisans, Balkan Trails are guaranteed to add a touch of personal magic to your travelling experience.

Romania Revealed

Romania Revealed is a meticulously-curated exploration of complex cultural traditions rich with hidden treasures[L1] : mysterious medieval castles, walled cities and citadels, Gypsies, folkloric arts and crafts, fortresses and strongholds, and priceless frescoes.

Start in Bucharest and proceed to the medieval towns of Sibiu and Alba Iulia.  Continue toward Maramures, an area largely untouched by modern civilisation.  Visit a traditional market before touring the brightly-coloured crosses of the light-hearted Merry Cemetery and nearby wooden churches.  Then, in Bucovina, visit the UNESCO World Heritage painted monasteries and attend an expert demonstration of the ancient art of egg painting.

Visit the home of a family of Gypsies – a rare opportunity experienced only by a select few.  Spend time in Viscri, a rural Transylvanian village and visit traditional craftspeople, and take a horse cart ride to the outskirts of the forest to meet with traditional brick makers and coal makers.  Finally, tour Dracula’s Castle and the opulent Peles Castle before winding up your tour in style at the Azuga Rhein Wine Cellars, founded in 1892.
