Discover the Aquila Game Reserve

Discover the Aquila Game Reserve

Western Cape, South Africa

Located only a few hours’ drive from Cape Town, the multicultural hub of South Africa, Aquila Game Reserve is the finest natural wildlife park in the Western Cape region, and an incredible place to easily see the most iconic and interesting wildlife on the planet. Visitors will be able to spot the Big 5 if they look carefully, with African elephants, Cape buffaloes, lions, leopards and rhinos all within the reserve.

Safari experiences in the park can take several different forms. The most relaxed way to see the incredible range of animal life is to join a game drive in a specially built safari vehicle. These multi-seated off road vehicles can gently carry their passengers around the reserve, along with guides who will explain the peculiarities of the natural world all around. The more adventurous visitor can choose to enjoy the reserve from either horseback, or on a quad bike. The 10,000 hectares of space within the reserve is the perfect place to enjoy the 250CC four wheeled bikes, or the quieter and less intrusive horseback option, where guests will feel more at one with nature and will disturb the animals considerably less. Both tours come with guides who can help visitors to understand what they are seeing, as well as to help locate some of the harder to spot animals. The reserve also offers night safaris, where guests can see some of the larger predators, who tend to sleep during the day, and hunt when the sun goes down.

The reserve provides more than 300 jobs to local people, from construction, education, tours, conservation and also hospitality. Explorers can choose to drive from Cape Town, through the stunning eastern suburbs (including the Constantia wine region), or can tour the reserve from the Aquila Safari Lodge.
