Discover the best adventure speaker line up of 2017 at the Adventure Travel Show!

Dave Cornthwaite returns as our host in the Adventure Auditorium introducing amazing adventure loving guests including Simon Reeve and Sean Conway.

Simon Reeve - Join adventurer Simon Reeve in this very special conversation.

Having travelled to more than 120 countries making multiple award-winning TV series for the BBC, Simon Reeve has been described as “British television’s most adventurous traveller.” You’ve seen him travel across jungles, deserts, mountains and oceans – now hear how he dodged bullets on frontlines, hunted with the Bushmen of the Kalahari, dived with manta rays, seals and sharks, survived malaria, walked through minefields, and tracked lions on foot.

Sean Conway – Adventure on the Edge

In 2016 endurance adventurer Sean Conway completed the world's longest Ultra Triathlon around the edge of mainland Britain. Documented on the Discovery Channel, Sean captivated the nation as he cycled (on a bike made of bamboo), ran and swam around the British coast covering a distance equal to London to New Dehli. Widely admired for his endurance, courage, humour and inimitable style, Sean will entertain you with his tales of life on the edge but also inspire you to find the courage to tackle difficult challenges no matter what they may be, and above all, to live life more adventurously. You might even discover the story behind the beard!

Laura Bingham – Overcoming obstacles on a bike.

2016 saw Laura Bingham cross South America with only the equipment she could fit in her panniers. She cycled from the Pacific Coast of Ecuador, over the Andes, through the Amazon jungle until she finally reached Buenos Aires – and the Atlantic Ocean. If this feat wasn’t tough enough, Laura conducted the entire expedition completely unsupported and with no money. Her extraordinary resourcefulness and unique charm was tested to the absolute limits. All expeditions rely, to some extent, on human kindness but this adventure would reveal how welcome Laura really was in South America and whether she got the local population to help her along her journey.

Nathan Millward – Sydney to London on a wing and a prayer.

Nathan Millwardrode 23,000 miles from Australia to England on a postal bike called Dot! Neither well-travelled nor prepared in the slightest for anything that may come his way, once Nathan had come up with the idea of getting from Sydney to London without triggering his fear of flying he felt like he had to turn the trip into reality. For footwear he had Converse trainers, for storage a milk crate, for accommodation a tent. Hear about his experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly), the lessons he learnt along the way and what it’s really like to travel spontaneously.

Masha Gordon – An accidental adventurer

Masha Gordon, the founder of GRIT&ROCK charity and a mother of two, was not athletic growing up. She embraced climbing in her mid-30s and seven years later, in June 2016, Masha broke an endurance world record in the Explorers Grand Slam by becoming the fastest woman to reach the highest peak on every continent and ski to the North and the South Poles in under 8 months. She also gained a Guinness World Record for becoming the fastest woman to climb the 7 Summits. Masha will share her insights on the world of amateur high-altitude mountaineering and on embracing adventure in everyday life.

Dave Cornthwaite – Adventures big and small.

Since quitting his last job as a bad graphic designer in 2005, Dave Cornthwaite has broken distance records on skateboards and stand up paddle boards, visited over 100 countries, completed 12 different non-motorised journeys over 1000 miles and founded a tribe of adventurers with over 3000 members. We can promise you one thing, if you spend this half an hour with Dave you've going to be ready to say yes more.

The Coxless Crew – The strength and diversity within a team.

With different personality types and backgrounds, how did a team of 6 women survive a gruelling 9 month expedition on a 29ft boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? Part of this all-female crew to row unsupported (who set two world records), Natalia Cohen and Emma Mitchell talk about what connects, drives and limits us as individuals and as a team as well as how to find the strength within the diversity of a team.

Ness Knight - Expect the unexpected: Planning an endurance expedition and world record attempt

False starts, unforeseen hurdles and quick fire problem solving go hand in hand with most expeditions. It’s easy to assume from the thousands of stunning images on Instagram accounts that adventure is all a journey of smooth sailing, but Ness delves into her experiences of exploration and endurance to reveal the lesser spoken about realities of life on expedition when things go awry and months, even years, of planning unravel at the seams. Plus hear how she is planning for her next expedition - a world record attempt to be the first female in history to row across the Pacific Ocean solo and nonstop.
