Enjoy A Segway Trip In Madrid

Madrid is home to some of the biggest and best sights in the world, and is one of the top European destinations regarding cultural and artistic heritage.  This active, contemporary city reflects a captivating blend of old and new; the streets at its heart are a pleasant surprise, with pockets of medieval buildings and slender, atmospheric alleys, dotted with shops and bars.  To discover what makes Spain’s capital such an attractive haven for both visitors and natives alike, and for an original and enjoyable journey, take a tour of the city on a Segway with Segway Trip Madrid.

A Segway is a self-balancing electric-powered transportation device, designed to reflect the process of human walking.  There is no accelerator or brake; riders simply lean forward to move and straighten up to stop, whilst turning the handle bar will move the device to the left or the right.  The top speed of a Segway is 12.5 miles per hour.

If you wish to get the very most out of your tour and combine Madrid’s history with its breathtaking scenery, Segway Trip Madrid recommend the Fun & Madrid Sightseeing Tour.  This three hour tour begins in Opera Square and continues on to the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral before you visit the Plaza de la Villa.  After an in-depth lesson in technical and management control on the Segway, you can begin your exploration of the capital’s highlights.

Plaza de la Villa is a small, picturesque square, famed for its contrasting styles of buildings.  The intimate Plaza is enclosed on three sides by wonderfully preserved examples of 17th Century Barroco Madrileño architecture.  The 17th Century former Town Hall - built in the Habsburg Baroque style with its Herrerian slate tile spires – is just one stunning example of the sumptuous architecture to be found here.

Your next stop is the Plaza Mayor, a grand arcaded rectangular square featuring uniform architecture, similar to the Place des Vosges in Paris.  Since its creation, the Plaza Mayor has been the centre of festivities, bull fights and royal coronations, and is still used today for public celebrations.  After a brief exploration the tour will continue on to Mercado San Miguel, followed by West Park, a charming English style park overlooking the Manzanares River.  Finally, your whirlwind tour of Madrid’s highlights will take in the Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple that was rebuilt in Madrid and the Plaza of Spain – large square featuring a monument to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

Segway Trip Madrid’s Botín Segway Tour is a three hour excursion that provides a historical journey encompassing many of the city’s fascinating landmarks and monuments.  The tour will begin Isabel II Square – also known as Opera Square – and takes in such arresting sites as the Royal Palace.  Now open to the public, the palace is the official residence of the Spanish Royal family, although it is no longer their family home.  The palace has 135,000 square metres of floor space and contains 3,418 rooms.  Inspired by sketches made by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for the construction of the Louvre, the palace is built in the form of a square and looks out over a large courtyard, surrounded by galleries and a parade.

The Segway tour then continues on to the Almudena Cathedral.  Madrid’s Catholic Cathedral, it was not completed until 1993, despite construction beginning in 1879.  It houses works of great artistic value, and the dome which crowns the building offers a stunning view over the city.

From the Almudena Cathedral you will travel to the Mercado de San Miguel via the Plaza de la Villa.  Built in 1916, this market is the finest example of cast-iron architecture in Madrid.  Today it is a sanctuary to gastronomy, home to 33 stalls offering delicious delicacies to take home or to enjoy right there on the premises.  Considered a Property of Cultural Interest, this stylish institution is the best place to appreciate the culture and entertainment the capital has to offer.  The tour ends with lunch or dinner in the historic Sobrino de Botín restaurant.  Founded in 1725, it is the oldest restaurant in operation according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Renowned for its classic style and chic patrons, Madrid is the ideal retreat for fashion lovers and shopaholics – and Segway Trip Madrid offers the perfect tour for those who want to immerse themselves in the latest Spanish trends.  The Shopping City Tour lasts for approximately two hour (following a Segway training session) and guides you through the best shopping areas of Madrid.  Accompanied by a personal shopper and image consultant, riders will be offered invaluable advice regarding personal image, seasonal fashions and the best shops to suit your style.

For those who are more interested in the great outdoors, the Madrid-Rio tour is clearly the tour for you.  The three hour tour introduces you to the Madrid Rio Park in all its glory.  The impressive 10 kilometre-long park runs along the beautiful Manzanares River and is adorned by 13 fountains, an urban beach and five viewing points allowing you to admire the city from different angles.
