Exotic Tastes, Incredible Flavours

An incredible island home to more than one million inhabitants, Cyprus is indeed a land of history, religion and culture, all of which is reflected in its mouth-watering and authentic cuisine.  The Cypriot diet is a cultural explosion offering some of the most unique and culinary experiences in the Mediterranean.  If there is one main feature that characterises Cypriot cuisine, it is the undeniably fresh and local ingredients available. Cypriot cooking primarily features healthy grains, pulses and fresh fruits and vegetables, and not to forget Cyprus’s famous aromatic herbs and love of olive oil.

The exotic food of Cyprus has been influenced by the Island’s geographical position and the many different cultures throughout the country, resulting in a delicious merge of Greek, Turkish, Arabic and English culinary styles.  The cultural differences of Cyprus reflect a culinary divide; the north features a Turkish speaking republic with a mostly authentic Turkish cuisine.  Including their renowned Zivania wine, brandy sour and beer, as well as none alcoholic drinks of Ayran and the traditional favourite of Turkish coffee.  While the cuisine of the south is mostly of Greek origin, wherever you are in Cyprus you are sure to enjoy the traditional dishes, such as meze – served either an appetiser or a main meal, the dish consists of up to 30 specialities including Cypriot delicacies of grilled halloumi cheese and Koupepia stuffed vine leaves.  Exploring the delectable Cypriot cuisine can vary from region to region, making a trip across Cyprus a real culinary adventure.
