Exploring Colorado

By Robert Servant

With 54 mountain peaks rising over 14,000 feet above sea level, and over 600 more that top 13,000 feet, Colorado’s mountains are a sight to behold.  While it is most famous for the Rocky Mountains there is so much more to see and do.

Colorado Springs

Explore the timeless beauty of the great American West with a visit to Colorado Springs and you will find that you are unlikely to explore the rest of this great State.  While most tourist cities around the world have one or two points of interest, Colorado Springs is awash with natural attractions from the 1,300 acre Garden of the Gods to ‘The Grandest Mile of Scenery in Colorado’ at Seven Falls.  The most breathtaking landmark in the state can be found in Colorado Springs.  Pikes Peak pulls over 250,000 visitors to its summit each year and was the inspiration behind the song ‘America the Beautiful’.

Aspen

Aspen is a winter sport dreamland, welcoming beginners and experts alike.  Its legendary X-Park is home to the Winter X Games and is said to be the longest park in the world, stretching over 3 kilometres.  Set in the remote area of the Rocky Mountains’ Sawatch Range, Aspen has attracted the attention of celebrities and corporate executives ever since the late 20th century and it now boasts some of the most expensive real estate prices in the United States.

Four Corners

This is the only place in the United States where four states intersect at one point: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado.  The original marker was erected in 1912, but it has since been remade into a smart looking monument made out of granite and brass.  While you are here explore the spectacular landscapes, buttes, canyons and diversity that make up the Navajo National Park.

Durango

The surrounding landscape of Durango is diverse, spanning from red sandstone bluffs of the Animas River Valley to the jagged peaks of the San Juan Mountains.  It is just a short drive from the ‘Four Corners’ making it the perfect pit-stop on the way.  While it is most famous for the historic narrow gauge railroad that connects Durango with Silverton, we are more impressed by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mesa Verde National Park for its rewarding hikes and sights which incredible the fascinating Cliff Palace.

Round Up

Colorado is almost limitless in the amount of activities and tours that are available.  Although it is nicknamed The Centennial State – with sights like the inspiring Colorado Springs to the world famous Rocky Mountains – we like to refer to it as the Picturesque State.

Where To Stay: The Broadmoor

Experience an escape from the ordinary where modern details blend seamlessly with the timeless elegance of this historic hotel.  Broadmoor is a AAA Five- Diamond resort in Colorado Springs featuring an award winning spa, 54 holes of championship golf and a series of specialty tours, activities and programs for guests of all ages and interests.

Where To Eat: Montagna

One of the oldest, most acclaimed spots in town has received a revamp with the arrival of the modern Montagna restaurant.  The menu is as wildly extravagant as it is delicious with signature dishes including taleggio agnolotti with salsify, parsnips and black truffles.
