Family Fun in Jamaica

Family Fun in Jamaica

With its breathtaking natural vistas, tropical beaches and culturally diverse capital city, Jamaica is on the lists of many holidaymakers as an impressive destination.  The island is often seen as a perfect spot for romantic getaways and a honeymoon destination, but it offers a vast array of fun family-friendly adventures that is not limited to sunbathing on the beach. The Luxury Travel Guide has prepared the perfect itinerary that will ensure the whole family can enjoy fun in the sun.

Dunn’s River Falls

Jamaica comes from “Xaymaca”, the Taino (the language of the island’s initial inhabitants) word for ‘land of springs’ and the Dunn’s River Falls are the finest example of the beauty of the Jamaican rivers and waterfalls.   Stroll the 600 feet of falls and lagoons and immerse yourselves in the lush landscapes. It is advisable to visit the park early in the morning, which will not only guarantee cooler weather, but also less bustling tourists.

Lunch at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records

Along with Bob Marley, ‘the fastest man alive’ Usain Bolt is one of the most emblematic public figures and icons in Jamaica.  Visit a restaurant that celebrates his success while choosing from a menu that nicely fuses delicious traditional Jamaican dishes (including the signature jerked meats) with innovative mixes (jerked chicken quesadillas and Jamaican Asian cob salad).  Full of sporting memorabilia, the lively sports bar is perfect for a quick family lunch before taking on a new adventure.

Sightseeing in Kingston

Kingston’s Uptown provides a rich array of sights for a perfectly relaxed family afternoon in the city.    Visit the idyllic Hope Botanical Gardens and Zoo, the Natural History Museum, have ice-cream at the famous Devon House and breathe in the air of the cultural hub.  Whatever you decide to do, one thing is unquestionable - the reggae soundtrack will follow you wherever you go to keep reminding you that despite the cosmopolitan vibes, you are still in the tropical paradise Jamaica.

Port Royal

Widely known as the wickedest city on earth, Port Royal is a fishing village and the pirate capital of the Caribbean.  The 17th Century pirate heaven was Jamaica’s first capital before an earthquake destroyed it, forcing the people who survived to move to the Kingston area.  Located only a short distance from today’s capital, the place promises a chilled but fun morning or afternoon of playing pirates, visiting the Port Royal museum and walking around the preserved walls of Fort Charles.

Blue Mountains Hike

Taking a long nap before embarking on this adventure is mandatory, since the best way to experience the famed Blue Mountains is by nightfall. But this doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on the views – the trip is planned as an overnight hike to ensure visitors reach the highest peak of the Blue Mountains by the crack of dawn.  The scenery is promised to be so spectacular and majestic that it will not only make you feel completely awake, but will also make you feel more alive than ever.

Mystic Mountain

Located an hour and a half away from Kingston is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jamaica – the Rainforest Adventures Park at Mystic Mountain. The ultimate attraction for families with younger children, it will definitely prove to be the highlight of your trip. Pools, waterslides, a canopy zip line, butterfly and hummingbird gardens, bobsled ride and a ski lift suspending you 700 feet above lush tropical landscapes guarantee an adrenaline-packed experience for the whole family.
