Holiday In Barbados

By Jenni Hayre

Experience classic calypso rhythms, an island-time vibe and world-famous rums in a fully-blown luxury environment.  Barbados is one of the most developed islands in the region and it is packed full of historic sites and landmarks, world-class beaches, natural beauty and Caribbean culture for people of all ages to enjoy.

Discover the Birthplace of Rum

Believed to be the oldest distilled spirit in the world, rum was first made 370 years ago from the sugar cane that populated the island.  During your stay, be sure to visit the Mount Gay Rum Distillery in Bridgetown, which has been operating since 1703, to take the tour which includes a rum tasting session.  At the time of discovery, Barbados rum soon found the favour of many English sailors who, as legend tells it, offered their bounty of rum as proof that they had crossed the Atlantic.  While you may not require the same level of proof, don’t let that stop you taking full advantage of this islands extensive range.

Explore Historic Sites & Landmarks

The island is often portrayed as the Little Britain of the Caribbean because of its long association as a British colony, and that influence is resonated by its wonderful architectural and historical sites and landmarks throughout.  Visit the 18th century Arlington House, which has been restored as an interactive three-story museum, as well as the Barbados Museum which is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Other highlights include the house where George Washington and his half-brother lived in back in 1751.

Adore the Natural Beauty

There are so many destinations to observe and adore the natural beauty of Barbados.  The mild, subtropical weather has nourished a fascinating array of flora and fauna, and nurtured lush gardens that are the most varied in the world.  It is home to a number of exquisite gardens and historic plantation houses while there is also no shortage of soft golden sands along the luxurious coastline.  The nature highlights in Barbados include Harrison’s Cave with its many stalactites, stalagmites, streams, lakes and waterfalls and the Barbados Wildlife Reserve where you can laugh at the antics of the green monkeys.

Round Up

It is easy to see why the local people always wear a smile on their faces.  Barbados is the epitome of luxury and has mastered the art of fine living.  Simply put, this island has perfected perfection.
