Hotel Tresanton

By Laura Blake

A beautiful location and an elegant design makes Hotel Tresanton ideal for those who want to explore Cornwall in all its glory.  With unrivalled views and a refined atmosphere, the hotel provides the very best of intimate and lavish experiences that you will surely wish to repeat.

A Glorious Location

Tresanton is a cluster of houses nestled on the edge of St. Mawes, one of the prettiest fishing villages in Cornwall.  Located on the water, at the end of the Roseland Peninsula, St. Mawes is a picture perfect destination, characterised by idyllic charms and a strong community spirit.

Originally created as a yachtsmen’s club (Falmouth Bay has long been a firm favourite amongst sailors) Tresanton was bought in 1997 by hotelier Olga Polizzi who subsequently spent the next two years completely restoring and re-designing it.  The attraction of Tresanton is quite clear – most guest rooms provide stunning views across the sea, with St. Anthony’s Lighthouse standing proudly in the distance.  The hotel also offers a bar, sitting room, cinema and a children’s garden, ensuring it is the perfect choice for the whole family.

Rooms

A collection of five houses, Tresanton offers 30 rooms in total, some with their own private terraces.  Most rooms offer magnificent sea views and provide ample space for families.  Beautifully decorated in a bright and fresh palette, the guest rooms have been carefully furnished with antiques and Cornish art to create individual havens of elegance and time-old class.  All rooms also offer superfast Wi-Fi, whilst well-behaved dogs are permitted.

Two of the houses which make up the hotel, Rock Cottage and The Nook, can be rented in their entirety to accommodate an extended family or a party of friends – the perfect option for those joining in celebration.  In particular, the spacious terrace of Rock Cottage is perfect for both larger parties and intimate, romantic experiences.  The cottage also commands dramatic coastal views –this, coupled with a glorious wood burning stove, ensures the cottage makes for an unrivalled winter escape.

A new three-bedroom suite in Upper Tresanton is an exceptional option for those travelling with children.  As well as offering two bathrooms, a comfortable sitting room with a large dining table and a beautiful balcony, a tongue and groove bedroom, complete with bunk beds and a flat screen TV, is haven for any child.

Delightful Days at Tresanton

Surrounded by the beautiful Cornish countryside and bordered by the sea, Tresanton provides a myriad of opportunities for guests to fill their days with entertainment and adventure.  The best walks the area has to offer are along the coastal paths, particularly the two mile walk past St. Mawes Castle and the 14th Century Church of St.  Just-in-Roseland.  A regular ferry during the summer months takes ramblers to the other side of the harbour where they can explore the intriguing lighthouse.

Sailing aficionados will delight in the opportunity to charter ‘Pinuccia’, Tresanton’s magnificent eight metre yacht.  Sail around Falmouth Bay for a truly unique sightseeing excursion! Alternatively, guests can visit a secluded beach by speedboat and enjoy a romantic picnic.  Of course, guests can also simply enjoy an afternoon of crabbing or exploring the beaches.

A number of museums, galleries and attractions are nearby, most notably The Tate, The Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum.  History and nature lovers will also be enraptured by the wealth of historic gardens in the area, particularly the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trewithen.

The Restaurant

Intricate mosaic flooring, tongue and groove walls and a lavender scented terrace – the restaurant at Tresanton is the perfect place to relax and enjoy freshly caught local produce.

During the summer, Tresanton offers fabulous barbeque lunches every Sunday, whilst their regular lunch menu features such local delights as Cornish crab salad.  Traditional afternoon tea is also a particular highlight at Tresanton.

When the weather allows, the entire restaurant spills out onto the large terrace; the menu changes seasonally in order to offer locally caught seafood, though regular dishes included favourites such as fish and chips.  During the summer, guests can enjoy a romantic supper for two on the private terrace and gaze out across the ocean.
