Mykonos on Board

Mykonos on Board

Artemis Zaranis grew up in Syros, the capital of the Cyclades Islands, and was greatly influenced by a nautical lifestyle.  Born from a long line of sailors, there was no question that Artemis would not follow in his ancestor’s footsteps and take up the tradition of sailing; he took up the sport at the tender age of six and went on to participate in many national and international races, before developing an additional taste for kitesurfing and freediving.  A love of the ocean is truly in his blood.

Artemis turned his passion into a career by training as a nautical engineer; after working for Alfa Yachts, a Greek boat construction company, he entered the world of yachting as a delivery skipper, and from 2003 to 2011 managed one of the first yacht companies in Santorini.  In 2011, he moved to Mykonos with a desire to start his own company, Mykonos on Board, drawing upon his passion, skills and experience of the Aegean Sea.  Having sailed more than 11,000 miles Artemis, a RYA Yacht Master offshore, also speaks English, Spanish and basic Portuguese – proving there is no one else more dedicated to creating new experiences in this beautiful corner of Greece.

A Mykonos Expert

The Luxury Travel Guide spoke with Artemis Xaranis to find out what sets Mykonos on Board apart from the competition, what guests can expect from a day cruise and his top picks for island beauty.

What inspired you to set up Mykonos on Board?

Everything started because of the love and the passion for sailing and yachting! I fell in love with sailing in the age of six, and it’s what I love doing and what I do best.  Mykonos on Board is my way of sharing a passion for sailing; I present my guests a real experience of Greek hospitality by offering them local gastronomy and showing them around my home, the Cyclades Islands.

What can a customer expect from a trip with you?

The first thing we want is for our guests to feel very special on Board.  Before we depart from the port, we plan which islands they want to visit, though if we have families and children on board we avoid sailing in the open sea and stay close to the coast, as safety is one of our priorities.

The days tours includes few stops for swimming in the most beautiful waters in the area,
open sea sailing and of course, full meals, snacks and drinks.  Our goal is to offer a memorable tour of the best sailing experience in style!

Does Mykonos on Board attract a specific type of traveller?

We have guests that are passionate sailors, younger and older guests and those that are experiencing sailing for the first time in their life.  We are popular with honeymooners who appreciate the romantic sunset tour, and those that simply want to spend a day on water and not on a beach.  Our rates are affordable for anyone who likes sailing or prefers to enjoy Mykonos and the nearby islands on board.

Are your tours suitable for families and large groups?

We are the preferred service for many families and groups because of our excellent services and facilities.  Our yacht can comfortably accommodate up to 12 people.

As a local expert, can you tell us a little of the hidden attractions of Mykonos?

Mykonos is blessed with some of the best beaches in Greece! One of those, Capari Beach, is located at the southwest part of the island and boasts the most beautiful sunsets, where you can watch the sun lowering behind Delos Island, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.  Fokos Beach can steal your heart before you arrive, because of the route we must take to get there – via the older side of Mykonos.  It’s a very popular route for romantic horseback rides, and once you arrive, you can enjoy a class of ouzo at the small tavern.

Last but certainly not least, the nearby island of Rhenia has some of the best and most turquoise waters on earth.  However, there are so many beauties in Mykonos, the list is endless!

Experience Mykonos

Artemis, with his Mykonos on Board sailing team offer organised private and semi-private day tours around Mykonos and the nearby islands of Delos and Rhenia, in addition to yacht charters around the Cyclades islands.  They provide every guest with a memorable experience, with opportunities to enjoy Greek gastronomy, feel the local hospitality and truly experience one of the most beautiful seas in the world, the Aegean.

Friendly service, professionalism and safety are the priorities of every trip with Mykonos on Board.  Every aspect of the islands will be fully explored, from the fantastic deserted beaches to the vast range of activities on offer – take the time to enjoy an afternoon of snorkelling, swimming and exploring, or simply lie back and enjoy the sun.  Artemis is more than happy to tailor a trip for every circumstance – special events such as intimate weddings, full moon sea safaris or tours for special occasions can easily be arranged.  Mykonos on Board also offers the unique concept of a shared tour; those who opt for the ‘Friends for a Day’ experience can share the boat with another group .

Mykonos on Board caters for guests from all over the world, always working with the same level of dedication and commitment.  Honestly and responsibly, Artemis, and his Mykonos on Board sailing team will offer you an unforgettable holiday around Mykonos and the Greek Islands!
