Our Pick Of Spas- Africa & The Middle East

Mazagan Spa – Morocco

When it comes to Turkish Spa’s – Morocco is the only destination that can rival the original and as such, a visit would not be complete without going to a Hammam or ‘Bathhouse’.

Marrakech may be the established destination to unwind – with many resorts across the city offering luxurious spa packages – but we stumbled across a real hidden gem in the port city of El Jadida on the Atlantic coast.

The Mazagan Spa is a luxury five-star hotel with 500 rooms and suites amid the tranquillity of the soft sandy dunes and stunning ocean views nestled at the heart of the oasis.  Begin your spa journey in the refreshing cool room before progressing to the swirling heat and aromas of the Hammam and the warm steam rooms.  The specialist, known as Teyaba, will then begin the traditional scrub with black soap and Kiss (the traditional Moroccan Glove) finishing with a warm water rinse that leaves you relaxed, refreshed and revitalised.

This unique relaxation temple includes 19 treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, unique Moroccan beauty treatments and luxury products and an authentic hammam complete with marble and mosaic décor.

Karkloof Spa Wellness & Wildlife Retreat – South Africa

Don’t you just hate it when you have to choose between adventure and relaxation?  Well, now you don’t have to.  The Karkloof Spa Wellness & Wildlife Retreat combines the two, offering visitors the chance to explore the 3,500 hectares of picturesque game reserve as well as making the most of the tranquil natural environment with the 17 spacious treatment rooms surrounded by spectacular views of the valley.

From the moment you arrive, wildlife abounds in pristine, well-protected terrain.  The reserve is home to buffalo, black and white rhino, hippo, and a variety of other wildlife, and with roughly 300 bird species, it is a birding enthusiast’s delight.  If you like you can spend the entire day out observing these wonderful creatures.  Alternatively, you can indulge in up to 11 hours of spa treatments per day, which means that you can enjoy up to 22 hours of spa treatments included in the rate for a one night stay.

The spa offers a uniquely African sensibility with the programs and treatments provided by a team of exceptionally skilled and hand-picked Thai Therapists.  Choose from an exotic list of natural treatments and signature spa journeys uniquely created to uplift, revitalise and recharge your body and mind.

MAIA Luxury Resort & Spa – Seychelles

Situated upon 30 acres of lush tropical gardens on a private peninsula, the Maia Luxury Resort & Spa overlooks the secluded beach of Anse Louis on the south-west coast of the main island of Mahe.  Sunbathing on this beautiful and tranquil coastal resort alone is enough to send you into a deep sense of wellbeing.

As you begin to think you couldn’t reach a higher sense of relaxation it dawns on you that there are a series of world-class therapy and beauty treatments on offer providing much more than just skin-deep relief by guiding you through accompanied yoga, self-Shiatsu and Qi Gong sessions.

Be sure to try the Twenty Dancing Fingers Massage – a traditional art with two therapists using firm techniques applied by thumb pressure, deep presses and gripping techniques along the meridians to release energy and improve circulation.

The Spa at The Address Dubai Marina

Given the extensive luxury throughout the whole of the United Arab Emirates it is quite a remarkable feat to be highlighted as one of the most prestigious hotels in the region –The Address can boast that achievement.  In part that is down to the truly splendid facilities on offer including the multi-award winning The Spa.

Escape to a world of serenity, tranquillity and gracious hospitality at The Spa.  The 12 top of the range treatment rooms provide a complete menu of signature treatments for face and body, using pure and organic oils and products.  Relax in the sauna and steam baths, and take in the peaceful views of the Marina.

If you are travelling from Europe you may want to avert the perils of jet lag with the signature Jet Lag Massage involving the inhalation of eucalyptus oil, body brushing, a series of stretches and a massage that not only resets your body clock but also encourages healthy circulation, digestion and the elimination of toxins.

Crowne Plaza – Kuwait

Revellers travel from all parts of the world to Kuwait to enjoy a luxurious holiday and yet many of them rarely ever leave the confines of the hotel.  While it may not be known for its sightseeing attractions or even its natural beauty, it does however boast a first-class standard in luxury living.

If you want something a little different to the Turkish, Thai and Balinese spa’s that are highlighted around the world you should give the French inspired spa a whirl at the Crowne Plaza.  Although there are over 50 treatment journeys to choose from, the entire spa experience focusses around three key French concepts.  The Aquatonic Pool is the first of its kind in the Middle East offering a selection of water therapies.  The Les Thermes Marins De Saint Malo introduces Europe’s internationally renowned beauty therapists to the region with its whole range of therapeutic treatments.  The Franck Provost Hair & Beauty Salon brings celebrity status to the Spa by creating and offering the latest trends, services and products in coiffure and beauty.

Arabian and Ethnic influences are captured throughout the spa’s décor using the finest of natural materials and textures, creating an exquisite ambience which is complemented by the soothing music, exotic aromas and dancing candlelight.  With the Spa Aquatonic – guests enter into a whole new dimension where East meets West in luxurious surroundings.
