Located in a lava field in Grindavik, between Keflavik and Reykjavik, Blue Lagoon is one of the most famous attractions in all of Iceland. The outdoor lagoon is the result of the volcanic activity synonymously associated with the small island as it is filled by naturally heated geothermal water which comes from 6,500ft (2,000m) below the surface of the earth.
 
Drenched in an otherworldly hue, the geothermal spa is high in mineral salts, rich algae and silica mud and provides a unique way to exfoliate and condition your skin. The Blue Lagoon remains delightful at any time of the year, as temperatures remain at 40 degrees in the pool regardless of the temperature outside.
 
With wondrous blue waters lapping against the white of the silica on the black lava rocks around the edges of the geothermal spa, Blue Lagoon is an incredible sight no matter what time of the year you choose to visit. However, to enjoy this attraction at its finest would mean taking a trip in the summer months when daylight is at a maximum.
 
In addition to taking a relaxing dip in the warm and healthy waters, guests can rejuvenate with an in-water massage treatment from a team of highly skilled therapists or enjoy use of the sauna and steam room. It also offers a café where guests can soak in the atmosphere and excellent facilities such as locker rooms and showers too.
 
Opening times for the pool vary dependant on when you visit; June see’s the Lagoon open between 9am – 9pm, while July and August stay open a little longer until 11pm. The earliest the pool closes is between September and May when closing time is 8pm. Long queues can often form, so book online in advance to skip the lines and dive straight into a scene of decadent pleasure.
