Thailand may not be the first place, or even the last, that springs to mind when considering wine producing countries yet surprisingly it has a number of excellent vineyards.  Most of Thailand’s vineyards are located in the Khao Yai National Park area of the country – a vast, hilly and beautiful area with breathtaking views.  We introduce three of the best on offer in this region where wine production is going from strength-to-strength.
 
GranMonte Family Vineyard
 
The GranMonte Family Vineyard planted their first grapes in 1999 and bottled the first vintage in December 2003.  Uniquely located in Asoke Valley adjacent to the Khao Yai National Park, the beautiful surroundings inspired the name, which translates as “big mountain”.  GranMonte produces Syrah and Chenin Blanc wines, as well as grape juices, grape jams, raisins, homemade cookies and even grapes by the kilo.  Stay overnight at the guest house overlooking the vineyards and sample the exquisite home style cooking at the VinCotto restaurant.
 
The Village Farm
 
The Village Farm estate is situated on the edge of the world renowned Khorat Plateau; nestled between Tublan and Khao Yai National Parks.  It is both a farm and a tranquil resort for those wishing to experience a taste of Thai country life.  The aptly named Chateau des Brumes (chateau in the mist) has a distinctly European vibe with its classic French chateau imagery and a cobblestone ‘Roman’ road.  The Chateau des Brumes wine has an emphasis on structure, texture, balance and complexity while the Village Cellar Wines are fruit driven to emphasise the pristine quality of the vineyards fruit.
 
PB-Valley Khao Yai Winery
 
PB-Valley Khao Yai Winery is perfectly situated in amongst the towering mountain ranges.  Having opened its doors in 1989, it is one of the oldest vineyards in Thailand.  Throughout the years they have expanded their collection, growing many different varieties of grape from all over the world.  Their products include Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and Rose wines.
