The Bare Necessities: Ten magic facts you should know about Disneyland Paris

By Jordyn Newton

Disney Magic is Clever Construction

Without the help of faith, trust and pixie dust, Mickey and his friends’ ability to appear in two places at once without two of the same character ever being spotted together is dependent upon an underground network of secret tunnels, which characters use to travel from one spot to another.

The Magic is Endless

Walt himself claimed that Disneyland, California would never be completed as long as imagination thrived, and the same can be said of Disneyland Paris, which welcomed an all new ‘Toy Story Land’ and ‘Ratatouille: The Adventure’ in 2014.

You can Tee Off

Three nine-hole golf courses at Disneyland’s very own golf course, alongside The Club House and Grill, allow you to enjoy a break from the thrills of Space Mountain or the crowds of Main Street USA.

Everybody wants to be a Disneyland cat

Because of its country location, Disneyland Paris reportedly experiences problems with field mice. The park allows feral cats to make their homes here, in return for ‘taking care’ of these tiny intruders.

Out with the Euro in with the new

Originally christened ‘Euro Disney’, the name was changed to ‘Disneyland Paris’ in the early ‘90s because European visitors considered it to hold negative connotations of work and finance, which consequently discouraged them from visiting.

You can enjoy a Disney drink

The only Disneyland park which serves alcohol is Paris’s Magic Kingdom, which used to follow the same ‘no alcohol’ policy as the other Disney parks around the world until the wine-loving French public complained.

Even Belle and Gaston speak English

The majority of characters and cast members speak fantastic English, making communication easy with international visitors, whilst hints of French accents add a little something to French characters from ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Ratatouille’ and ‘The Aristocats’.

Enjoy the sweet smell of success

Signature aromas, including vanilla and cinnamon on Main Street USA and saltwater on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ ride, accompany different lands, rides and sections of the park to make different atmospheres as realistic as possible.

Wake up to a magic morning

Guests of the official Disneyland hotels can enjoy two hours of exclusive access before the Park opens to the general public, providing the chance to revel in uncrowded streets and make a beeline for popular rides, avoiding lengthy queues.

Come crashing down to Earth with The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

The elevator drop ride reportedly pulls riders towards the ground at a speed slightly faster than that of gravity during a free fall – after lifting you to a height of 199ft and opening its doors to show you all of Paris that is.
