The Crown Jewels of Canadian Nature

The Crown Jewels of Canadian Nature

Canada’s landscape lends itself to some of the most drastic and wonderful scenery on Earth, unparalleled in range with jagged mountains, roaring waterfalls and verdant sub-Arctic forests just a small part of its natural majesty.  Far more than just a holiday destination for visitors to Quebec or Vancouver, Canada’s countryside lends itself perfectly to a range of activities for the aspiring adventurer, where tourists can ski through alpine mountains, tackle white-water rapids on a kayaking trip or just hike and nature-spot through the resplendent scenery at a pace which suits them best.  The Canadian countryside is never far from even its most metropolitan centres, forever acting as a ubiquitous reward for tourists staying in the country.

Rugged Coastline

Canada’s coastline is the longest in the world, which provides the country with incredible coastal locations which support activities ranging from swimming and surfing to Arctic expedition.  Canada’s Western Coast stretches along British Columbia and its major cities and settlements, including Vancouver.  Here the coast is almost Nordic in nature, with many fjords and mountains creating magnificent panoramas which tourists can hike along or kayak directly through.  Alternatively, tourists can explore Canada’s Atlantic coastline to the east, alternating long journeys along pine-lined coastline and islands with small settlements like Halifax and Nova Scotia.  East Coast tides can be incredibly dramatic as they can rise and fall by up to 14 metres, creating an incredible emphasis on nature’s sheer indomitability.

Nature Parks

As of 2015 Canada holds 37 separate National Parks and eight National Park Reserves, each offering different terrains to support Canada’s vast and diverse wildlife.  Visitors could find themselves enjoying stunning coastal views at Bruce Peninsula, climbing colossal mountains in Banlif or Auyuittuq, viewing herds of bison in the lush plains of Riding Mountain or Grasslands, or otherwise exploring one of Canada’s other incredible sites.  Each site possesses a bounty of flora and fauna which makes any trip instantly fascinating and sure to spark an interest in natural biology, especially in the sheer range of animals that can be seen at various locations, including brown and polar bears, moose, elk and birds such as the majestic bald eagle.

Waterfalls

One of Canada’s most famous natural landmarks is the utterly enchanting Niagara Falls, and though this attraction is incredible for its sheer, unyielding splendour, Niagara’s three individual waterfalls are just a small part of the greater network of stunning waterfalls in the country.  Visitors seeking waterfalls tours are best visiting British Columbia (which has the largest concentration of sites in the country), where they can view the enormous Alfred Creek Falls (the tallest in Canada) and Deserted River Falls (the largest waterfall in North America).  Visits to these sites are often family friendly, guided tours helping to put an educational twist on the thrill of seeing some of nature’s most powerful phenomena.

Arctic Expeditions

Canada’s incredible landmass stretches as far north as the Arctic Circle, and as such sub-Arctic expeditions are a popular choice for tourists who wish to embark on a trip to see some of the world’s most incredibly resilient landscapes and creatures.  Canada offers a range of Arctic safaris and expeditions which tourists can embark on to get close to some of the country’s unique species in their natural habitat.  Among these are polar bears, narwhals and seals, with guests even able to get close to baby seals for photo opportunities.  In addition to wildlife tours, Arctic expeditions can also be undertaken to visit incredible glacial formations, and to seek out the mysterious northern lights, which bathe the sky in kaleidoscopic colours.
