The Enchantment of Lake Bled

The Enchantment of Lake Bled

Lake Bled is a marvellous lake in the Julian Alps in the North-West of Slovenia and it’s a tremendously visited location by virtue of its uniqueness, being the sole possessor of the only island in the country.   This spectacular little wonder of nature came into existence with the recession of the Bohinj Glacier, and is 2,120 metres of history, nature and traditions combined.

Bled, the Alpine town which harbours the delightful lake, is bursting with countless nature beauties, such as the crystal mountain water, the tiny charming island in the middle, the Gothic Bled castle placed high above on top of a rock, the Vintgar Gorge or the Lake Bohinj – just a small handful of sights that may just leave you breathless.

The town’s best feature and object of pride is definitely the emerald Lake Bled, with its waters surrounding this one-of-a -kind lovely island.  Reachable by pletna boat, the island is home to the romantic white Church of the Assumption, a mythical Baroque building that attracts numerous couples due to its local traditions.

Tourists in the search of relaxation and inspiration, tranquillity and the challenges of sport will find here a plenitude of opportunities.  Walking and coaching hikes around the lake and up to the Bled Castle, traditional boats, the castle’s treasures, mountain trails, golf courses, hunting, fishing, the nearby Iglica Waterfall or the Babji Zob Caves  – all these are but fragments of Bled’s attraction.

The town’s setting is ideal because of its proximity to other interesting tourist destinations, such as the famous Triglav National Park, which attracts over two millions visitors each year and is an amalgam of spectacular natural features.  Furthermore, hourly tourist trips to the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, are organised, so you can take in all the seductive appeals that Slovenia proposes.
