The Very Best in Ultimate Cruises

The Very Best in Ultimate Cruises

By James Drakeford

This is one compilation of cruises that you won’t find the Vanilla Sky actor appearing in.  Instead we have opted to include the biggest, the best, and the most expensive sea-holidays on offer.  Please be warned; after gawping at these luxury cruises, you may be left reaching for your passports.

The Biggest: Allure of the seas

You cannot go wrong with the Royal Caribbean’s finest gem, Allure of the seas.  The architectural marvel measures at 360 metres and weighs 225,282 gross tonne.  It is the largest cruise ship ever constructed, beating its sister ship Oasis of the Seas by a mere 5 centimetres in length.

Specialising in Caribbean holidays, the Allure can carry 6,360 passengers and offers an unrivalled array of onboard experiences that you would struggle to find in most cities.  You can dance on ice in the skating rink, or dance till dawn at Blaze Nightclub.  Relax with a bit of miniature golf, or unwind on the deck by the pool.  Enjoy the Aqua Theatre, or spin the roulette wheel in the Casino Royale.  Even the most agitated or short-attention spanned will be catered for.

When it comes to dining, the sophisticated and gourmet 150 Central Park is always a pleasure.  But the Allure also offers a variety of 25 different dining options for everything from the informal snacks through to the 6-8 course tasting menu paired with wines.

Seven days basking in the exotic Caribbean sun will set you back roughly £9,234 for the luxurious Royal Loft Suite.  This suite contains two contemporary floors, separate bedrooms, a private balcony with Jacuzzi, flat-screen TVs, a wet bar, two dining areas and a baby grand piano.

The Best: MSC Fantasia

Ignoring the plethora of the Royal Fleet, the Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) Fantasia is perhaps the best of the rest.  The Fantasia is everything a modern cruise ship should be – but with a little extra Italian style added for good measure.  More than 75% of rooms have balconies, the Fantasia also features Europe’s best ship-within-a-ship concept with an onboard Yacht Club.

Guests will be able to walk on a Swarovski crystal floor on this cruise that includes state of the art amenities such as wine bars, gyms, Turkish baths, Surf Park, ice skating rink, formula one simulator, an interactive 4D cinema and many more.

The VIP features include a butler service offering assistance at check-in, overseeing the transport of luggage, unpacking and serving traditional English high tea, arrange for cigars and wine, liquors and champagne, and pre-book tables at the restaurants, spa treatments, and various excursions chosen by the guest.

MSC Fantasia operates year-round in the Mediterranean, with 7 day visits including travel to Italy, Tunisia, Spain and France.  Prices start around £440.00 on special offer, departing from various ports.

The Most Expensive: The Silver Whisper

Got a spare £1million lying around?  If so, Six Star Cruises luxury 124-day vacation on The Silver Whisper liner may be for you.  Visiting no fewer than 28 countries, and costing £8,000 per day – passengers are given a first rate experience to view the world in a minimal amount of time.

The mammoth cruise begins with the holidaymakers being picked up from their home by Sikorsky helicopter.  They will then fly to a London airport where they will feast on Beluga Caviar priced at £4,000 per kilogram, and sip on Da Hong Pao Tea harvested from 1,000 year old plants that are so rare they cost over £2,000 per kilogram, before being pampered with Dom Perignon Rosi champagne on a private chartered Boeing Business Jet serviced by a top Michelin starred chef en route to the cruise departure destination in Los Angeles.

After four days pre-cruise at the iconic Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the cruise will visit destinations including French Polynesia, New Zealand, Malaysia, the Maldives and Mauritius and bear witness to Volcanic islands thrusting out of sea, sculptured dunes of a coastal desert, and African gamelands.  Guests will reside in the sumptuous Royal Suite which includes two bedrooms over 1,000 square feet, two marbled bathrooms, separate dining area and bar and two spacious verandas.

To round the trip off, the package also includes a four night post-cruise stay in a £7,300 a night apartment set in a gated community on Sunset Island, Miami.  The Spacious villa in Florida features a rooftop Jacuzzi, in-home cinema plus a dedicated butler.

Sound appealing?  This cruise sets off on 1st January 2013 and can be booked up on the Six Star Cruises website.
