The World’s Most Romantic Travel Destinations

By James Drakeford

When you’re all loved up you don’t need anything more than each other, but that doesn’t stop us craving a romantic trip or honeymoon stay at the world’s most romantic cities on Earth to allow the mood of love and the uncontained romance to blossom.  Here’s a selection of the most romantic destinations for you to plan your trip.

Venice, Italy

Rome, Milan, Amalfi Coast, Verona, Florence...  You could easily fill a list of the most romantic cities just from Italy alone.  The fact that time and time again the amazing “Floating City” of Venice manages to stand out as the lovers’ choice goes to show just how incredible it actually is.

Enjoy the delicious food and the marvellous Italian wine before cuddling up to your partner as you take the Gondola Serenade canal tour along the majestic buildings and the beautiful settings.

Paris, France

There is a reason that Paris is the ultimate icon of all romantic cities.  Millions of lovebirds flock to the city every year to take in such wonderful sights as the Louvre Art Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Arc de Triomphe.  With its rich history in art and culture, and the language of love being the native tongue, this beautiful city is also the perfect place to pop the question.

Why not go for a romantic walk down the Seine River, treat your partner to dinner on a restaurant-boat, and then take in all of the city’s glory atop of the most famous landmark in the world, the Eiffel Tower.

New York, USA

While Paris has the Eiffel Tower, New York has the Empire State Building.  France has the Louvre Art Museum, but the United States has the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Overall, New York City is the American equivalent of Paris.  From breath-taking scenic views to incredible restaurants, the possibilities are endless.

Much like the Eiffel Tower, the ‘Cathedral of the Skies’ is a popular location for many couples to pop the question but the romance doesn’t end there.  Live out a Hollywood movie by staying at the Plaza Hotel, take a carriage ride through Central Park, and then go hand-in-hand as you glide around the ice at the Rockefeller Center’s iconic skating rink before sharing a cup of coffee with your loved one at the outdoor cafe, for a chance to relax and take in NYC for all of its allure.

Mauritius

Going above and beyond a romantic trip or a setting to ask the big question, Mauritius is famous for its weddings and honeymoons rolled into one.  With crystal clear waters, exotic beaches, luxurious sunshine, and a picturesque setting – words cannot do it justice.

Hire a guide to lead you inland to tumbling Tamarin Falls and take a secluded and refreshing dip before gliding along in a glass-bottomed boat from sheltered Trou aux Biches beach, or sail into the sunset to the island of Ile aux Cerfs.

If your thinking of tying the knot, imagine having your wedding in the bird paradise of Casela Bird Park, where over 140 varieties of birds, including the Mauritian pink pigeon, the rarest bird in the world, sing in harmony a melodious tune made especially for you. Your dreams could be made into a reality.

London, England

You don’t always have to travel far and wide to take a romantic getaway.  London has frequently been used as a romantic backdrop with romantic comedy films such as Notting Hill, About a Boy, and Closer, but its familiarity tends to make us blissfully unaware of its potential.

Lunch on the River Thames, go for a spin on the London Eye, embrace the art at the nearby Tate Modern, and catch a West End show before checking in at a cosy bed and breakfast or one of London’s many exquisite hotels.  Yes it may not be as warm as Mauritius, but that just means you and your partner can snuggle up late at night.
