Upstreamflyfishing Switzerland

For many, fly fishing becomes more than just a hobby; it becomes a lifestyle wrapped in its own philosophy, presenting a lifelong template for personal growth and fulfilment.  Pascal Zeller first discovered his love for fly fishing over 20 years ago, and has over 15 years of experience teaching fellow anglers how to perfect their art.  Based in Interlaken, Switzerland, Pascal has unrivalled local knowledge of the area including secluded mountain lakes virtually unknown to other fishermen, but he also offers trips to Iceland for the chance to bag a large trophy catch.

Nothing is more important to Pascal than quality, so he provides only private and small group tours, guaranteeing no more than two lines in the water at once.  This allows him to give each and every client the personal attention and tuition that they deserve and require to improve their skills.  Switzerland’s hard to reach mountain streams are Pascal’s favourite spots, with cold clear water and very few human disturbances.  These secluded streams require a stealthy approach, and often only allow for one line in the water at once, so are best enjoyed as the highlight of a private trip.

Pascal offers day long fishing lessons that are the perfect way for advanced fly fishers to enhance their skills, as well as longer trips to the very best locations that are perfect for clients hoping to reel in an impressive catch.  Of course Pascal also realises that many beginners want to experience the enjoyment of proper fly fishing in the wild, but don’t have the patience to spend weeks reeling in tiny catches at the local pond so Upstreamflyfishing’s Bucket List Flyfishing Adventure offers you the chance to embark upon a once in a lifetime trip and bag your first real catch.  Pascal also offers excellent fishing experiences in Iceland – perfect for anyone keen to test out their new found skills in different waters.

Types of Fish

With Pascal, keen fishers can try their hand at catching some of the most common and sought after species that populate these icy waters.

Brook and Brown Trout

Brook and Brown trout are best found in higher elevation mountain streams and although their season begins in March, the snow melt raises water levels are discolours the water meaning nymphs or streamers are the only choice.  By the beginning of May most streams are back to their normal water level and remain perfect for fishing with dry flies until September.  Clear water is essential for this type of fishing, as is being able to read the water, find the fish and a drag free accurate presentation.

Grayling

The fascinating grayling will be found in larger waters with steady flows in the midlands, mostly from November to December.  These give you the chance to fish in one of Switzerland’s many beautiful mountain lakes, surrounded by amazing scenery.  Gusty overcast days can promise good fishing on mountain lakes and these sites are often easier to get to than the small mountain streams.

Pike

Catching pike by fly fishing is one of the most interesting, exciting and challenging experiences for any angler.  Trolling for pike is popular in Swiss lakes but fly fishing for them is still relatively rare.  Pascal began pike fishing on the lakes next to him after first practicing in Sweden, and the results were so good that he now teaches fly fishers how to catch pike with heavier rods and flies.  Although you are likely to catch smaller pike by fly fishing the experience is much more rewarding and by sticking close to the shore you can sight-cast to the lurking fish for a unique and exciting experience.
