The Warner Brother’s Studio Tour, London

The Warner Brother’s Studio Tour, London

By Saadia Sharif

The phenomenon of the Harry Potter books and films has swept the world by storm.  The emotional depth of the books combined with the striking reality of the films has made it a global success, resonating with people from every walk of life. The Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London gives fans an opportunity like no other - the chance to marvel at the exact set, props and costumes used during the eight motion pictures.

Even if you are not an avid fan of the franchise there is an undisputable magic about the studios from the second you enter.  Much like Harry Potter’s first arrival to Hogwarts, the tour begins in the Great Hall. This subtle nod towards the books can go unnoticed, but to keen enthusiasts it adds a significant sense of realism and truly gives the feeling that you yourself are part of this extraordinary world created by J.K Rowling.  The visually impressive start to the tour immediately sets expectations high, and it maintains this standard continuously.  Following this grand entrance are two sound stages and a backlot, all brimming with enchanting items.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of genuine props fill the sound stages, be them stand-alone in glass cases or still in their rightful places on sets. Their intricate details showcase just how much time, effort, and dedication was invested into matching the rich description of the novels. Each prop is carefully designed and finished with an unrivalled precision, be it to a shining perfection or tattered remains. As you make your way through the tour, it begins to give the impression that you are walking through a museum, admiring one-of-a-kind artefacts and invaluable pieces of history.

The model of Hogwarts Castleis easily the most magnificent part of the experience. The minimalist setting is highly effective, with just a handful of spotlights to guide your eyes towards the castle. Situated in the centre of the room, it requires no commentary or special effects, the sheer scale of it being more than enough to captivate even the idlest of minds.  The fine detailing and capacity of it is almost hypnotic, luring people in to gaze in wonder.

In a place that has been named as one of the highest rated attractions in the world since its opening in 2012, the tour is surprisingly not congested.  Their system of crowd control is incredibly efficient, and waiting times are minimal. In addition to this, the care towards visitors is plentiful, with staff in sight consistently to answer any questions or soothe concerns.

From casual fans, to the obsessed, to the people that haven’t even watched the films and simply got dragged along to the tour, the Warner Brothers Studio Tour is an experience like no other. Just like the films and novels, it is nothing short of a masterpiece.
