It's Slime Time With Nickelodeon On The Riviera Maya

It's Slime Time With Nickelodeon On The Riviera Maya

It's been several years in the making, but the doors have finally opened on Mexico's first Nickelodeon-branded resort. The Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Riviera Maya rolled out the "orange carpet" on Aug. 2 with ultimate pomp and circumstance. The resort is part of the Karisma Hotels & Resorts family and is not far from the Generations Riviera Maya property.

Resort guests will have access to the six-acre Aqua Nick waterpark -- one of the largest in Mexico -- as well as themed suites, restaurants that are part of the Gourmet Inclusive dining program, character encounters and, of course, a serious side of slime.

The resort has 280 Nick-inspired Oceanfront Swim-Up Suites. Each measures 581 square feet, complete with two full bathrooms and a view of the ocean from the balcony. All rooms can accommodate families of five.

Sweet Suites

Of course, guests can also book specialty suites, including the Big Kahuna Suite. This 3,000-square-foot suite is a major throwback to the '90s, with custom pieces that include a sideboard inspired by Chuckie's glasses from the "Rugrats" as well as neon artwork with the iconic Ren & Stimpy phrase, "Happy Happy Joy Joy." There is even a 710-square-foot oceanfront terrace with an infinity-edge plunge pool.Another room to beat is the Lair Suite, which is designed for the ultimate Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. Perched on the highest floor, the 3,000-square-foot rooftop penthouse can sleep up to seven. The space includes indoor and outdoor living spaces, a dining area, a Master Suite and two additional bedrooms. An oceanfront terrace with an infinity-edge plunge pool overlooks the sea.

Finally, there's the resort's signature escape, the SpongeBob SquarePants themed Pineapple Suite. Like the Lair Suite, the Pineapple Suite features extra perks like in-suite butlers, 3,000 square feet of space and indoor and outdoor living areas.

Taste Of The '90s

No detail is spared when it comes to taking it back to the heyday of Nickelodeon. Even the restaurants take guests back to the '90s. Six restaurants all take inspiration from popular Nickelodeon shows, like Piazza, serving Ninja Turtles-inspired pizza, or Good Burger, where burger joint vibes from the "All That" comedy sketch are prevalent. Adults can kick back at three bars, including the Bikini Bottom Bar and Gourmet Corner, as well as two swim-up bars, Cosmo & Wanda, which takes its name from "The Fairly OddParents."

What A Waterpark

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the resort is its six-acre Aqua Nick waterpark, which features 2,000 square feet of slides and 1,820 square feet of river rides as well as attractions such as an activity pool and Bikini Bottom Beach.

Of course, no Nick experience would be complete without a little slime, and the waterpark features daily Super Sliming events. You can also stop by the Soak Summit Main Tower, which has slides and great views, or Paw Patrol Adventure Bay, which is a smaller area for younger kids to enjoy.

For those who want to stay dry, the resort has Nickelodeon Place, which is where the heart of the activity is. Here, families can make the acquaintance of many beloved Nickelodeon characters. Daily activities also include beachside yoga, cooking lessons, beach volleyball and live nightly entertainment.

Up-coming Attractions

While the rooms and activities are ready to roll, there are still a few exciting elements yet to debut. The Naay Spa will open its doors in October. The seafront spa and fitness center will be a peaceful escape for adults, while Club Nick will be the free play zone for kids. Here, they will find the iconic Big Orange Couch as well as the Snick Lounge, which is geared more toward teenagers.

Still to come will be the Pajama Jam! Character Breakfasts, which will feature appearances from Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob and Patrick, the Fairly OddParents and the Paw Patrol.
