It might seem odd to see the terms “fat” and “fitness” being used in the same sentence, but omega-3 fatty acids are not your regular fats. These unsaturated fatty acids are not only essential to the human body - they also play active roles in improving health and augmenting our fitness levels.

The fats have even shown to even make the brain resilient towards age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s, memory loss, cognitive impairment, etc. Note that you don’t need to be 60 to start a diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids because, by then, it would not be as effective. The sooner you start, the sharper you will remain through the years.

  • Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) – It’s one of the basic structural components of our skin membrane, so having enough DHA in your system will keep your skin supple, soft and moisturized. It may even help in keeping wrinkles at bay.

  • Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)– In addition to keeping the skin well hydrated, EPA also reduces excess oil production, prevents hyperkeratinization, halts the aging process and reduces acne.
