A Day Trip to Piran

A Day Trip to Piran

Piran is a picturesque sea side town located in South West Slovenia, along the Mediterranean Coast. With its quaint Old Town, historic architecture and sea side cuisine, it is the perfect destination for a coastal day trip while in Slovenia.

Tartini Square

Tartini Square or Tartinijev Trg is the largest and main square within Piran; it is a favourable destination to start your time in Pirin because of its central location. Surrounded by splendid architecture and with a range of restaurants in close proximity, Tartini Square is a short walk from the port and the centre of the square is laid with exquisite marble. The square is home to the picturesque 15th Century Casa Veneziana, and the Venetian Renaissance beauty of St Peter’s Church. With many cafes, museums and aquariums dotted around the square, it is easy to lose yourself in this fantastic setting.

Pri Mari

On the coast, just south of the Port of Piran is a stunning restaurant serving a range of Slovenian, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines. With fresh fish delivered daily from the Port, you know that you will be dining at a restaurant that puts fresh produce at the height of its priorities. The House specialities include marinated sardines, home-made gnocchi flavoured with rocket and ham, risotto with scampi, Spanish risotto, paella, with seafood, meat and vegetables and fresh lobster among other dishes.

View from the Tower of St. George’s Cathedral

Located at the north end of the town is St. George’s Cathedral, the perfect viewpoint to see the Old Town, including the iconic orange tile roofs of the numerous houses in the area, the narrow streets and stunning squares. Towards the northern side of the tower, the hill descends into the Adriatic Sea and the views of the Eastern Italian coast are truly breathtaking. Take the trip to St. George’s Cathedral in the evening to soak in the spectacular views of the sunset over the Adriatic Sea.
