Asia’s Best Spas

Asia’s Best Spas

By James Drakeford

The Farm - The Philippines

The Farm is one of the leading medical and wellness clinics in the world.  Their philosophy is the belief that “disease is preventable and curable, naturally” using Prevention and Recovery Retreat programs that focus on medically guided detoxification as a way to jump start the body cleansing process.  Prevent or remedy digestive disorders, weight loss, diabetes, infertility, arthritis, hypertension or chronic degenerative diseases, or take movement and spiritual development with a series of yoga, meditation and satsang sessions.  Set within a lush 48-hectare organic coconut and coffee plantation two hours south of Manilla, it offers a true haven from life’s toxins and temptations along with an ultimate in privacy, comfort and tranquillity.

Drx Medispa - Singapore

Launched in 2007, Singapore’s Drx Medispa marries medical science with spa technology to provide a cutting-edge aesthetic, therapeutic and purifying treatment services.  They are the only spa in Singapore to offer treatments such as the flotation chambers to float in zero-gravity for a deep sleep and Airnergy, their oxygen-based therapy which is used in Sports Medicine across Europe to boost the body’s natural regenerative ability.  Other cutting-edge services include Aesthetics (face) to tackle the skin’s signs of ageing, scarring and acne;  a comprehensive list of Contour treatments (body) that DRx is most known for; and Trichology (hair and scalp) for some of the most advanced professional solutions using low level laser therapies.  The Drx Group is led by Medical Director, Dr S K Tan – a 30 year veteran in medical aesthetics – and also successfully distributes equipment and products such as the award winning Derma-Rx skincare range.

The Chi Spa – China

The Chi Spa blends an urban oasis dedicated to the care and beauty, a haven of calm and personal well-being treatment centre with a concept based on a combination of ancient Himalayan and Chinese healing rituals.  The philosophical element of this spa creeps in upon arrival when you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire to determine which of the five Chinese elements you are; metal, fire, wood, water and earth.  Using different types of essential oils according to which element you are on the day of treatment, they thoroughly believe that therapists need to tailor your treatment according to the current status of your mind, body and soul.  Try the calming Chi Balance massage or the Himalayan Heating Stone Massage, to promote harmony and emotional balance which in turn evoke a feeling of nurtured wellbeing.

Armani/Spa – Tokyo

This spa is unmistakably Armani in design.  Italian fashion expert Giorgio Armani has oozed class since launching the now prestigious brand back in 1975, but Giorgio outdid himself when he designed his first ever one-of-a-kind spa on the fifth floor of Armani HQ in Ginza, Tokyo’s famous fashionista district.  The spa bucks the trend of conventional spa design with its black décor, sleek, highly exclusive urban concept.  The three-hour Armani Ceremony takes you through an organised floor plan that allows you to ‘walk through’ your spa.  Starting from a central corridor travel from room to room through linearly arranged rooms taking in gong banging, fizzy volcanic foot baths, circular massage bed therapy and Armani make-up fun.  This is a great spa break while your partner gets their retail therapy fix, or alternatively, take a break in between picking up your Armani suit and dining at the Armani / Ristorante.

Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat – Australia

This award winning Australian spa facility combines the romantic elegance of a boutique art deco guesthouse with calm, luxuriously comfortable and re-energising spa using the country’s leading technology.  Peppers Springs Retreat features European-made Soft Pak Float beds and three open-air mineral pools with garden views.  Its Mineral Spa is architecturally designed to reflect the environment and landscape as a sanctuary of healing and relaxation; connecting body and spirit to the earth’s natural elements and offering powerful healing and beauty treatments to re-invigorate and restore.  The spa’s key feature of healing through mineral water is tucked away in a private and peaceful corner of the spa at The Retreat comprising of two 100% mineral water spas, a cold plunge pool, steam room, infra-red detox box and the only lavender-infused basalt stone sauna in the Southern Hemisphere.  Signature treatments on offer include pregnancy and oncology massages, delivered by spa specialist and skin care expert, Pevonia Botanica.
