Dew Tour Am Series Lands in Barcelona
By James Leyfield
While sangria, soccer and a smorgasbord of tapas are some of the main things which spring to mind when people think of Barcelona, skateboarding should be right up there.
On Saturday, 23 September 2017, one of Europe’s most anticipated amateur skate competitions, the Dew Tour Am Series, will roll into the Catalan city’s Olympic Port.
The area, known as Port Olímpic to locals, has seen some serious sporting sights over the years since opening in 1991 and hosting sailing events for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and the marina is about to witness many more magnificent feats.
As well as the breathtaking views of beachside Barcelona, spectators will no doubt be glued to the action as amateur skaters show off their sublime skills for a chance to win the opportunity to attend a 2018 Dew Tour pro skateboarding event in the United States.
When onlookers aren’t watching out for the next Tony Hawk, they will be sipping from their Mountain Dew bottles and admiring professional skater Sean Malto, who is the star attraction of the weekend.
“I’m honoured to be part of this year’s Dew Tour Am Series in Barcelona,” Sean said.
“The event has become an anticipated fixture in European skaters’ calendars as a premier amateur skateboarding event.
“I’m proud to be part of the ride with Mountain Dew as it continues to support the skateboarding community in Europe and abroad.”
Known for its stunning architecture, Barcelona's Olympic district is one of the most attractive areas of the beautiful city.
With a sumptuous selection of bars and restaurants to frequent or sculptures to gaze at, Dew Tour Am Series spectators will have plenty to keep themselves occupied with when the skateboarding has finished for the day.
“Known as a skater’s paradise, Barcelona is the perfect city backdrop for the Dew Tour Am Series,” said Mark Kirkham, Head of Marketing & Innovation, PepsiCo West Europe Beverages.
“With our heritage in skateboarding, we’re proud to be ambassadors of the growing skateboarding community with this year’s Dew Tour Am Series in Barcelona alongside celebrated professional skater Sean Malto.”
