UKSA COVID-19 Reopening Guidance for Spas and Salons
Today (24th June 2020) the UK Spa Association released a guidance document, which has been designed for the initial reopening period of the industry with anticipated social distancing restrictions, created as such for its members and the wider UK spa industry.
With initial, fast acting lobbying of the government, the not-for-profit, trade association for UK Spa’s, was invited to consult with the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on the publication of a guidance document for “close contact services, including hair and beauty” released on 23rd June 2020.
While the government guidelines cover all industries with close contact work, the UK Spa Association’s comprehensive guidelines have been specifically tailored for spas and salons.
THE UKSA GUIDELINES HAVE BEEN CREATED TO WORK ALONGSIDE THE GOVERNMENT GUIDANCE.
The UK Spa Association’s guidelines have been designed to cut the confusion throughout lockdown and take a chronological approach to the safe reopening of UK Spa’s. The literature walks a business through topics such as: Risk Assessment to Test & Trace, from Returning to the Workplace to Training and Equality within the Workforce. The guidelines give detail on cleaning and communication and everything in between.
Please note however, that this guidance is not a legal requirement and does not replace government guidance. It is important to remember that every spa and salon is different, and so each spa operator and individual should consider how the association’s guidance best fits with the requirements of each individual business. It is not advised to operate below these standards.
Simultaneously, the UK Spa Association had beenproactive in gathering feedback from the industry, through their pioneering 'What's Next for Wellness' survey as well as innumerable Spa Director and Supplier Assemblies, to be the authority on the information required, in order to provide key assistance, so that the UK spas can re-open as safely and successfully as possible.
